Start of a run or crash back to Earth?

I think we've shown pretty clearly it's not the start of a run. Most of those ended up near the line of scrimmage. We gotta pass. . . .

Wake played MIAM at just 20 to 33,
a much more respectable showing than our blowout.
And then they upset ranked LOUV last week in KY,
with a robust run defense.
Deacons smoked LOUV for 400 yards of offense
They ran the ball well on LOUV.
They have one WR to stop: Hernandez.
I don't like the travel distance for this one with a Noon ET start. Bad combo.
With pass blocking, perhaps Warren can get in gear,
but WAKE has seen video and they will blitz us.
WAKE moved up to #3 in ACC by beating LOUV,
behind MIAM and SMU
By throttling GTEC we bounced up to #11

"Houston, we have a problem"
... no run blocking; hard to keep the ball

I'm less worried about WF's defense and more worried about their offense. If Stanford wants to win, it'll probably require offensive excellence in a shootout, paired with a winning chess match on defense. I don't like the timezone difference, and comparisons to Miami indicate that Stanford will be a real underdog. But I'm still picking Stanford.

Here's how Stanford has fared with games that kickoff at 9 am PT going back to 2009:
2025
@ SMU 10-34
2024
@ NC State 28-59
2021
vs Kansas State (Arlington, TX) 7-24
2015
@ Northwestern 6-16
2013
@ Army 34-20
2009
@ Wake Forest 17-24
That's a 1-5 W/L record with an average score of us 17 them 29.5. I am predicting WF 34 Stanford 20, but I fear the final score will be more like the Duke game.
Then again, I whiffed on the Georgia Tech game. I predicted the 27 points that GT scored but predicted Stanford would score only 10.

While GT win is probably not the start of a run, it is exponentially more fun to pick Card to win :)

Following along with the "start of a run?" theme,
I think to start a run, you have to be able to call a run, and something more effective than what looks like a Slow Mesh even though it wasn't meant to be.
We did run well against Hawaii, but since then our run has runaway somewhere and hid.
So with great kudos to Davis Warren's passing, the OLine's pass protection, and our receivers apparently now loading massive amounts of stickum on their paws, I think the fundamental laws of football remain inviolate.
And that is if you can't run the ball, and the opposing defense knows you can't run the ball, then you are more likely to be screwed glued and tattooed than not.
I do think we are better than outside pre-season folks expected.
But unfortunately I think this opponent of WF is even much better than expected.
So although I'd like to go with a Cardinal win, I'm using cold calculating logic to predict a WF win, also in hopes of winning the valuable prizes and accolades afforded to the eventual pool winner.

Compelling logic... sadly

Hate to be a bummer but this feels like a classic game where we are reminded we suck.
East Coast game
9am
Average but trending up opponent
Demons 41
Cardinal 10

ANY WAY TO WIN AT WAKE? On the road, early start... uuugh. WAKE favored by 12+
1) Stop their run; they keep the ball by running with two RBs.
We have shown a decent Run Defense.
2) Double-team WR Hernandez; He is their pass offense.
3) Watch the blitz (often) and throw quick to the TEs. Use Blackburn more often.
Plus, some draw plays and screens.
4) Yes, let Warren throw. My view is that Red Zone gives WAKE less territory to guard.
Our passing TDs come more likely from OUTSIDE the red zone.
5) Can we run the ball WIDE? Stop the RPO up the middle. Useless.
6) Of course get turnovers; but we will need to force them. Pressure Lopez; make him hurry.
