ACC STANDINGS:  WHO GOES BOWLING? - ADPinWDC - 10-29-2026

ACC STANDINGS:  WHO GOES BOWLING?
This is Separation week for ACC Championship.
The ranked teams above us will each win:
#1 MIAM, #14 WAKE, #19 SMU.
SMU hosts WAKE on Nov. 14 for the "play-in" game vs MIAM.
QB Mensah will be in ACC Champ game two years in a row.
And teams below Stanford will lose this weekend.
Teams with three losses will fight for Bowl eligibility.

VTEC (6-2) has a bye now.  Then they visit SMU on Nov 6.  Then they host us.
Beating VTEC and CALSucks is our only path to SIX wins.
I do not think we beat @LOUV nor SMU in PA to finish.
Yes, 5-7 would be "acceptable" for Pritchard's first year.
Settling for 4-8 would be "Meh", subpar -- finishing with four losses.   No juice in recruiting.
Harbaugh went 4-8 in 2007; then 5-7 in 2008.

The breakthrough with Gerhart and Luck was 2009, including the big beat down of USC in the Coliseum.
Then the Golden BCS years:  2010-2017, where we went 85W-21L.  In 2010, Harbaugh's last year, we went 12-1
With Luck & Hogan, Gerhart, Taylor, McCaffrey, BLove.  Three Rose Bowls.
And the best O-Lines in Stanford history, plus solid defense.

I fondly remember somebody describing Harbaugh's first season as, "The greatest 4-8 season in history" (given the Biggest Upset Ever and Big Game victory)

I definitely think it was the most entertaining. The 2021 Nebraska Huskers (3-9) lost all nine games by single digits. The 2016 Notre Dame (4-8) team outscored its opponents 371-334, seven of eight losses were by eight points or fewer, they finished #26 in the contemporary S&P ratings. Mike McGlinchey was on that team. The 2022 Iowa State team (year after Purdy left) had six losses by one score, and 11 of their 12 opponents went to the postseason.

But the coolest 4-8 team was Stanford's 2007 version.

Didn't get to see the Greatest Upset in person but next best thing was heading down to meet the team at Maples after they flew back later that night. There were probably a couple of thousand people there - just effing glorious! Same after MBB got back to campus after beating Jim Harrick's URI team in the Midwest Finals in '98 - still remember Pete Sauer's slightly dazed, "Shouldn't you all be sleeping, or at least studying?!?!?" look getting off the team bus. Good times.....

If I didn't say it first, I have been copying it ever since.  Those wins were something to hang our hats on and built trust in Harbaugh's system.  Here's hoping Pritchard and Luck remember what made players believe in Harbaugh's system and can reinstall the best of it.
