The Future of Football -

An interesting article on concussions and the future of the sport. My uncle, probably the most athletic member of my family, a guy who lettered in three sports, and claims to have pitched a few strikes against Tony Gwynn in high school, is already trying to transition his kids away from football to lacrosse because of the concussion risk.
I think in 30 years, what we call football may look very different than what we see today.

in one of the pieces linked here on the new mouthpiece studies related to concussions, iirc women's lax was very high in concussion rates (football, women's lax, women's field hockey?)

Field Hockey! Big on the East Coast, so let me explain. A bunch of women looking right at the ground, hunched over slightly to get in a better position to whack the ball. You get two women running at a good clip but with their heads down watching a ball on the ground. Since their heads are literally leading the way, it is all set up. Then Bamm! Their heads collide. Noggin v Noggin. Putting the hair up in a pony tail does very little to protect the head. It happens, and like in many sports wearing head gear is kind of uncool.
