Continuing coverage for Stanford football? -

The ESPN Stanford blogger is now the joint Pac-12 Blogger. I'm not sure that this means he will be covering the whole conference, while also focusing on Stanford, or what, but I suspect it means that he will be writing about Stanford football even in the post-Luck era.

I always thought it was pretty clear that Stanford, a member of the Pac-12 conference, had its own blog page because of Luck. They might as well have called it the 2012 #1 Draft Pick Blog.
Even all of the members of the mighty SEC share the same SEC page. As I wrote that it dawned on me that maybe next year ESPN will have a page for the SEC - West and another page for SEC - East.
Still a page just for a Luck-free Stanford football team seems excessive.

I bet you enjoy looking in the mouths of gift horses.

One serious note. I wouldn't be surprised if this is part of a bigger move for ESPN. They've been investing in local sports journalism in big markets--Boston, New York, Dallas, LA--and I wonder whether the Bay Area's next. With the local economy doing the way it is (overall), the demographics are about as desirable as any place, and the competition is not exactly formidable at this point in time. ESPN SF could be a thing of the future, and Kevin Gemmell, Stanford beat writer would be a natural fit in that particular plan, if indeed they have it.

As I imagine most of you know, I am an ESPN employee, but I don't work on television, so I'm pretty ignorant about lots of stuff in that realm. But I know a few people who work on the various local ESPN markets (NY, Dallas, Boston, ...), and I think the current plans are to focus on the markets that are currently being served, rather than increasing reach into new markets. (And I even created the original mobile versions of espnlosangeles.com, espnchicago.com, and so forth. But that was several years ago.)
And this is unofficial, and I might be wrong. But it's what I believe.
And if you want to see what I have worked on more recently, I changed the QR code in my profile. (Now it points to the BracketBound application, for anyone who wants college hoops information on their phone.)

That's not exactly true, if you read the Pac-12 blog a lot you surely notice all the $C related articles Miller links from the guys at ESPNLA, there's also things like this page for Oklahoma:
http://espn.go.com/colleges/oklahoma/, or this one for LSU:
http://espn.go.com/colleges/lsu/index
I think there's a lot more individual school coverage than we realize, it's just that for whatever reason the Stanford blog shows up on the list next to the conference blogs (no idea why). It is nice having our blogger stick around though, I've enjoyed his work all year.
