Cardinal Commit Cayla Crushes @ IAAF Jr. World Championships -

A few months back I brought up freshman to be Cayla Hatton's stunning 10K performance in a mixed open meet back in NH. Well, she's at it again with a 15:50.32 personal best to place 4th (1st US) at the world JR Championships. Scroll down on the link for results.

It's the fastest US prep 5K this year. At Boston in May she also ran the #3 HS time this year for 1500 - 4:18.85.

1500 to 10K; quite a range. She should be a significant addition to Stanford women's track.

Great post and what a performance. Missed the HS record by 2 seconds. Of course losing Floreal might well mean losing some assistants and then what.Â

I can understand him leaving for KY. He'll be able to follow the Arkansas / A&M / LSU model of heavily recruiting sprinters & jumpers from the south and Caribbean. KY must have tired of being so mediocre in what will now be the strongest T&F conference in the country.
I hope we have a good Sr Associate AD with a focus in T&F as I agree we may lose several assistants as well.
One can't help but wonder if not having an experienced & empowered AD in place has contributed to to this recent efflux of high caliber Olympic sports coaches.

Wow. I'm really out of touch. Arkansas and LSU are traditional powers, but outside of the discus, what is A&M known for?

Yvonne, you have let that Track & Field News subscription slip. TAMU, coached by Pat Henry, won the NCAA Men's AND Women's Outdoor National Championships in 2009, 2010, and 2011 after winning just the Men's title in 2008.
Pat Henry won 3 men's championships and 13 women's championships @ LSU before moving to TAMU. The core of his program has been sprints/hurdles/jumps and the 400m & 1600m relays. Currently LSU,Florida, & Fl State follow that format for the most part, supplemented with some field and distance scoring. Arkansas and TN tend to be more multidimensional. In their best years USC and UCLA are sprint based though they have also had some good history in field events.

Today incoming frosh Steve Solomon was 3rd in the world Jr 400 in 45.52. Our school record is 45.85. Solomon is an Aussie and will run on their Olympic relay team.
As to uncle chuck's thoughts on Floreal leaving, way off base sad to say.

Great news about Solomon; thanks.
Re Floreal's departure - pretty much non-insider speculation on my part. Would appreciate any specifics you'd be able to share.
