The Pac-12 Network Wants to Make You Famous - Hank 91 - 07-11-2012

I got an interesting email this afternoon from a woman at the Pac-12 Network. The network is planning a series called "Pac-12 Classics" that will tell the stories of what they've determined to be some of the greatest games in the history of the conference. They'll be starting with football, and they have twelve games selected, three of which involve Stanford:

Stanford vs. USC, 2007: The Biggest Upset Ever
Stanford vs. Washington, 1999: Marques Tuiasosopo goes crazy
Big Game 1982

Here's where you come in:
Quote:"We are looking for several passionate fans who can talk about these games. What we are looking for is not simply the play by play of the big moments, but rather to bring the full experience of the game to life. Where were they when they watched, what unique things happened during the game, what were their emotions before the game, during and after, do they have any pre game traditions or superstitions. All these kinds of things really add to the flavor of the experience and the storytelling of these particular games.

We are doing interviews throughout the month of July and it would be great if you could help connect us with any fans that you feel would be a good fit for this series."

So if you'd be interested in possibly being interviewed for this series, email me your story (hank@stanfordalumni.org) and I'll forward it to my contact at the Network.

Too bad they didn't include the game on your shirt.

History of the conference?  I would immediately DQ that Washington game.  We went into the game ranked 25th and they were unranked.  I recall the game being decided on a questionable call, which the cnnsi recap confirmed:  http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/college/recaps/1999/10/30/wwb_sss/

In 1982, Elway knocked off #1 Washington in what SI called the "upset of the year" and put Elway on the cover.  How about that game?  http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1126078/index.htm

Or how about the 94 game where backup Scott Frost (then "Frosty the Showman") rallied us to a 46-28 win vs top-10 UW team.  We had lost to UW 10 times straight and the last 4 scores were:  52-16, 42-7, 41-7, and 31-14.  He came in after Stenstrom broke his finger and played an amazing game.

I think it is a crime the 2001 Oregon game is not on there (their only loss, 49-42, in Autzen... unreal game).  This year's USC game would be a no-brainer also, but I'll give them a pass given the recency.

As for individual accomplishments, how about 5'8'' Troy Walters going for 278 receiving yards against top-20 UCLA in 1999 (including Pac 10 record 98-yarder)?

Sorry, but don't like their selections...

There's no way any list wouldn't include Big Game 1982 and Stanford-USC 2007. As for the other game, I'm guessing one of their priorities was to have all the schools represented, so it's not surprising that Tuiasosopo's game made the cut. Maybe they could've taken the 199? Husky Rose Bowl win over Michigan, but I'm guessing the list only includes conference match-ups. Personally, I look forward to seeing the whole list.

Yes, 2001 Oregon is a glaring omission.
