TE recruit from Alabama. 4-star on ESPN, 3-star everywhere else. Has Alabama as leader, but wants Georgia and Stanford offers. Impressive offer sheet - includes Vanderbilt, Virginia, Florida State and South Carolina in addition to Alabama.
Relevant quotes:
Quote:But Im still kind of waiting for Stanford a little bit. I dont want to commit too soon, so that Stanford would that think they lost me if theyre still interested. So thats what is kind of holding me back.
Quote:Taboada hasnt set up a timeline for his decision: I was going to wait until halfway through the season and send game film to Stanford and see what they think. If I still dont have an offer from them, and no other schools like Georgia pop up, I will probably commit around that time.
Quote:He has a 3.7 GPA and will likely major in Business if he goes to Alabama, or Computer Science at Stanford.
Also interesting to see people in the comment section (presumably from Alabama/Georgia) hoping he gets the offer from Stanford.
With Ertz and Toilolo set to graduate/leave early for the NFL in the next year or two, I would think Stanford is all over Taboada. Sounds like he would very likely commit to Stanford if he had the offer, so hope he has the requisite grades/scores and Stanford comes calling!

I think the problem is we already have Cotton in the class and we already offered Austin Hooper from De La Salle as a TE.

Taboada is also, from what I've read, pretty impressive as a DE, so one would think that Stanford could find some use for him. His quotes certainly do sound like he would lean towards us if the coaches offer. It is such a small class, I assume that 1) They must really think they have someone special in Cotton if they feel good enough about him to not offer someone of Taboada's apparent ability, and/or 2) they feel they need to wait on a few other players (Devon Allen, Jordan Cunningham, Johnny Johnson, maybe Tarean Folston) to see how this class shapes up before extending more offers. I guess possibility #3 is that Stanford for some reason does not see the same thing other programs have seen, so they don't rank him as highly. But since he is still waiting I would think that he must still have some communication with the coaches and have some idea that there is still the possibility of an offer at some point.Â

I thought we'd learned that you can't have too many TEs.

Just because Taboada is highly rated by the services, that doesn't mean the Stanford staff agrees.
Here's another thing that will be interesting to watch over the next two to three years. This staff has made it clear on several occasions and with several decisions that when it comes to evaluating high school recruits, they're working with a different algorithm than most of the accepted recruiting services. Sean Barton is a recent example, but that could also be a case of identifying a talented player earlier than other schools.
What I'm looking forward to seeing is the development of Barry J. Sanders, a four-star recruit whom Shaw called the best running back in the country. Also, it will be interesting to track the careers of Ryan Burns and U.S.C.'s Max Browne (should those commitments stick). Browne is generally acknowledged to be the top quarterback recruit in the country, and it was believed that he would've jumped on a Stanford scholarship if offered. Shaw and his staff didn't bother because they preferred Burns.
We'll see.

Taboada was not able to work out when he visited this summer. staff couldn't see him work in person, then no offer. I suspect they want to see more film this fall. unfortunately, the system Taboada plays in is often allergic to throwing the ball.

I have heard it is highly doubtful Hooper will have the goods to get past admissions.
If Alabama wants someone, that's good enough for me. Those quotes suggest Stanford would be his leader if he is offered and admitted.
