Looking ahead to UCLA -
fullmetal - 08-30-2012
UCLA RB Johnathan Franklin appears to have retired for the evening as UCLA carries a 17 pt lead over Rice early in the 4th qtr. He's got 179 yds rushing on 13 attempts and two TDs. That'll be a stiff test for our defensive front seven. UCLA's OL seems to have worn down late in the game though, so you never know.
And by "17 pt lead," I mean UCLA 41, Rice 24. When was the last time UCLA even sniffed the half-century mark in points?? That UCLA frosh QB Brett Hundley looks like the real deal...against Rice.

Franklin with 3 TDs on the night now; 214 yards rushing. (He's on my college fantasy football team.) Hope the Stanford D is ready for this.

UCLA's offense is probably improved, but it is Rice--and UCLA often looked sloppy or pushed around at the line.
Their defense and special teams looked absolutely awful.
It's how I would've predicted--most of the good UCLA coaches are on the offensive side of the ball. And, shockingly, when you hire the coach of the worst DBs in the conference...you get poor-tackling DBs. No way! No one could've guessed!

UCLA had what, three extra points blocked by Rice?
Also in tales of sad defenses, WSU is getting carved up by BYU. Mike Leach's boys are looking pretty sad on paper right now.

Rice was 111th in the country in defense last year, so the result is not surprising.
UCLA last game of the regular season - Redrum - 08-30-2012
Who knows what either team will be like by then. We might be looking dazed, trying out our third starting QB of the season. UCLA might be wishing they could schedule Rice again. Too early to tell. Franklin was always a good runner. Hendrix is a good running QB in their (quasi?) pistol or whatever it was I saw.
