How the Pac-12 fits into the 2014 playoff - Kathy - 09-26-2012

Latest plan calls for one of the semifinal games in a four-team playoff to pit either a Pac-12 or Big 12 team against the best team within these five conferences: the Big East, Mountain West, Conference USA, Sun Belt or Mid-American Conference.

I don't think that's right. This is a contingency plan of a contingency plan:

IF the Pac-12 doesn't have a team in the playoff AND
IF the Rose Bowl is one of the semifinal hosts
THEN the Pac-12 champ will play one of the aforementioned teams.

Otherwise, it will be a Pac-12 runnerup or worse (or the same for Big 12) against one of the aforementioned teams.

That's clearly not one of the semi-final games.  No plan will go through without approval from all the major conferences.  And the SEC would reject any plan that can't create an SEC-against-SEC championship game.  ;)
