Vote in the poll on when and if a QB switch will happen.

Apologies that I might not be totally consistent in the question about the next "three" games.

I'd love to see Nottingham. But I don't think I will unless Nunes continues to have a less than 50% completion ratio. I think he will do just good enough to not get pulled.
I think it will be hard for Shaw to pull the plug on him...judging by what we have seen from Shaw in his coaching style.

Add the following option: "A switch does not happen this season."Â Not an option I necessarily endorse, btw.

very sorry, I have screwed up this poll 3 times. will get it right now.

second vote (unfortunately) for "a switch does not happen this season"

As for the second option, Shaw has already answered it in the post game press conference: no QB change.
@ScottReissCSN Shaw asked if there's any chance he'll change QBs this week. His response: "No."

My fear is that Shaw wrote off BIG THINGS (Pac-12 championship, BCS bowl, etc) for this year to begin with. As a result, he's using this year as more of a rebuilding, rather than reloading year, and will stick with Nunes the whole season in the hopes that next year we can do BIG THINGS.

There, I fixed the poll again. If I ever make a poll again I won't do it without focusing

If Shaw was planning for the future, wouldn't it have made more sense to go with the younger guy?

sad thing is, we dont even know if nottingham's all that better.

During the SC game, I thought, and said to those around me, "This game is too big for him right now".
Stanford got the win despite the poor QB passing stats. This time Stanford was not quite so lucky, but I always thought this first road game was going to be a big ask for a new QB.
The good news is the Stanford D is amazing. The bad news is that every team will try to put 9 men in the box now.
The O Line is good enough that I don't see Nunes getting hurt or pressured into bad decisions. The Stanford D is good enough that Stanford will probably be one good drive away from winning almost every game.
I am sure Nunes is great in practice, but in the last two games the throws just are not coming easily. That's too bad, but if he can't settle into the role next week it might be time to at least try other options.
Re: predict our QB over the next three games - Cardinal96 - 09-28-2012
I don't see the downside in starting Nottingham. Yes Nunes is more of a known commodity. But we know that he is mediocre at best. We aren't going far with Nunes and will have to win games in spite of him. He just looks lost out there. Between Nunes and our receivers, our offense was a laughingstock.

I vote for Dallas Lloyd.

Seems to me that Hogan might be a better solution than Nottingham. If we don't have reliable receivers, a guy who can make plays on his feet could win us games that the defense keeps us in. Hogan also has the upside of more eligibility, more game experience with waves of better and better players. If he was in the mix as a redshirt freshman, he might have more upside than Nottingham. Give Hogan 3.5 years with that monster 2012 offensive line class, and who knows what we could do?

Your consistency on this issue is really excellent.
Lloyd might not be best, but damnit he'd be the most fun.

I'd like to see a switch ASAP, but I'm not very optimistic that'll happen. So I'm going with "A switch does not happen this season."

Hogan played one down in the first half and ran for a few yards, from the shotgun, IIRC. As Nunes struggled, I thought maybe we would see him back in the game, even for a down here and there as an additional wrinkle in the offense. I don't think he ever came back in, though.
Re: predict our QB over the next three games - ChicagoCard - 09-28-2012
I wrote a few weeks ago that I hoped to see Hogan in from time to time in the same way as the wildcat is used, with the threat of an actually QB dropping back to throw would be an added dimension. When was it that we saw Nottingham warming up on the sideline, 2nd or 3rd quarter? Has to mean something. Nunes may be underwhelming but it's not all on Nunes. The o-line was better last year and will be better later this year. It's really a bummer that with this unbelievably good defense, the offense is a mess. All those three and outs and Washington was still pretty much shut down other than two big plays. I'm torn, I don't like a situation such as at No.tre D. where one guy is said to be the guy, but another comes in when times get rough. But I admit I'm curious what it would look like with Nottingham throwing the ball to these same receivers.
Off topic... Jesse Palmer is intolerable.

The o-line is an interesting topic. It's improved hugely on pass protection--against Duke and USC it ran into trouble when confronted with heavy blitzes. Nunes basically got really good pass protection throughout. On run-blocking, well, that needs work.
Basically Shaw needs to put Peat in there. He foresaw the issues clearly enough before the season began--i.e. that moving Yankey from LG to LT would destabilize two positions--and while it's understandable why he didn't want to rely on Peat early in the season, owing to the cast, the cast is off and Peat needs to play. Yankey's not a bad LT but he's potentially an elite LG.
