The anti-spread offense: Stanford, Florida loading field with linemen -
fullmetal - 10-12-2012
Andy Staples shows some love for the smashmouth style of football in this article.
Quote:Stanford makes things even more difficult by using an unbalanced line, which can trick an unsuspecting defense into thinking an eligible tight end is an ineligible lineman. On the Cardinal's game-winning overtime touchdown play last week against Arizona, both tackles lined up on the right side and 6-foot-8, 265-pound tight end Levine Toilolo lined up next to left guard Khalil Wilkes. Meanwhile, guard Dillon Bonnell wore No. 96 and lined up on the far right side of the line -- slightly behind the line of scrimmage. The Cardinal also called Power. Wilkes pulled and found all the linebackers blocked, so he wiped out the Wildcats' safety. Bonnell, meanwhile, kicked out a defensive end. Taylor ran 20 yards for the game-winning score.
He also notes that Dillon Bonnell and Kyle Murphy have worn receiver-eligible jersey numbers and that Murphy has already been targeted by a pass this season (totally didn't remember that). Opportunities abound. Anyway, this article is good reading--esp since Staples includes a Youtube video at the end of the article starring none other than Kulabafi.

Good find, fullmetal - Redrum - 10-12-2012
Good explanation of an interesting subject. Would love to see this kind of stuff available to non-football players and explained at a similar level.
Note to SI.Com: If you're a major player in the sports field and if you're going to make a video...invest in some new markers so they're visible fergawdsakes. But, it was still a pretty good explanation of the plays.

I love Andy's nearly-restrained enthusiasm during his Stanford portion when he says "This guy's going to wind up gettin' *smashed.*" and "This play was blocked so well that Wilkes ends up getting the *safety.*"
Talking about one of Florida's freshman tackles, "The guy was like a nine-star recruit."
"Heck, I'm waiting til somebody uses eight [linemen]."Â We're getting there, buddy.
