Re: Final: Stanford 21, 59ers 3 - dabigv13 - 10-20-2012

AHA! We see garvin's meticulous outlining that is the bedrock of his reasoned and well arranged posts. Not so spontaneous after all eh?

I'm in a hospital, and I'm armed with a scalpel. Come at me bro.

Quick overall impressions...

Many of us long time fans believe this may be the worst bunch of OLers that my Alma Mater has fielded in the last 60 years.  Today's game did not disabuse any of us of that notion.

LSJU could some WR's...

It is good to see that Alamar still can't coach PK's.

Taylor reminded me of Marshawn Lynch - he fights for every yard.

It appeared as though there were many empty seats. Next year, the place will be a ghost town if JT returns.

Quote:Interestingly, Kevin Hogan seems to have been elevated to second-string quarterback.

While I personally liked what I saw from Hogan, I don't see how you can make this conclusion. Hogan brings a change of pace/different dimension to the game than Nunes. He keeps the defense off balance. This doesn't mean that he'd be more likely to rise to starter in the case of Nunes going down.

Was he passing the ball? If he's not actually asked to throw the ball, I wouldn't say those snaps are meaningful.

I'm more than happy to be wrong. Whichever QB can get it done for us is all I want. The official depth chart lists BN, but feel free to read the tea leaves tell us what they say about "the real depth chart."

Yeah, to me it seemed that Stanford's opponent's main weakness was spirit, morale, confidence. (In a big game that is always the key anyway) ... And that only, only comes to the coach.

Re: Final: Stanford 21, 59ers 3 - Rando - 10-20-2012

Wasn't able to watch the game due to work, but man I'm happy for Hogan. I remember watching Nottingham and Nunes get their first TD passes from the stands. I wish I could have seen Hogan's.

Nottingham has been in during garbage time before. Maybe it was just Hogan's turn. I can't imagine Nottingham is happy at all. I'm sure last year he had to feel pretty confident about being the guy. Now he is in the same spot as last year but has Hogan breathing down his neck. It's tough being a QB.

I want to see improvement from Nunes, particularly in his pass completion percent. That has been his weakpoint in HS and it still is in college.

I still love this team, shooting for 9 wins. I have confidence! Our defense will keep us in any game. Do not count us out vs. Oregon or OSU. It will be rough. We'll find a way. Let's win 10. Let's go 2-0 vs USC.

Now that I have watched the replay it is clear that Fox tried to make it seem like things were in doubt.  For those in the stands, for both schools it seems, the game was not in doubt after Ertz's catch.

If Stanford could hold Notre Dame and SC to 13 and 14 in regulation, then 14 was probably going to be enough.  UCB looked terrible.

It was an odd game.  Stanford fans, used to glorious offensive play, are having a tough time embracing the game plan oriented around the D.  Still, it was very comforting to KNOW that UCB only wins with big mistakes from the O and Special teams.

Meanwhile, the PA announcer and the UCB AD seemed obsessed with watching "The Play" over, and over, and over again on their new tiny TVs.
