Stanford Defense will carry the day -

It's not really going out on much of a limb to predict that a Stanford Rose Bowl win will be dependent on a stellar defensive performance. Stanford's defense has been generally great all year, with the exception of Arizona and UCLA in the Pac-12 CG.Â
It just seems to me the last two games Stanford and Wisconsin played are going to combine to create a focus and intensity that will yield a defensive performance on par with the performance the defense turned in at Eugene. Stanford played a very poor defensive game by its 2012 season standards in its last game, and Wisconsin played its best offensive game of the season in its last game. These two factors will hone the focus and intensity of Stanford's defense to a level Wisconsin has not seen all season.
If Stanford can hold Oregon and USC to 14 points, there really is not much reason to believe they can't hold a much less explosive Wisconsin offense to something similar. I will be shocked if Stanford's defense gives up more than 17 points.
Hogan and the WRs will have their best game of the season and Stanford will win 31-17.

A couple of us last night predicted "crushing" victories or that Stanford would "crush" Wisconsin on tape for garvin. Yvonne rightly bemoaned the woofing and is probably preparing to exile that verb from the board should...should...nahhhhhh.

Well, that was a pretty sorry ass defensive performance in the first half. Stanford's allowed over 160 yards rushing at half and has zero sacks. The 38 yard run to the QB was awful.
The defense is going to have to play much better in the second half if Stanford is going to win this game. I think they will.

Well, the offense carried the team in the first half, but the second half was all about the D.
Great team effort!

It looks like Stanford held Wisconsin to less than 100 yards in the second half, and only 60 yards rushing in the second half, and allowed no points. They stepped up and keyed the win as it seemed they would.

I'm guessing those crushing victory videos have somehow been lost.
Don't get me wrong. It's a great victory. Just not crushing.

garvin has them for posterity--i didn't feel the offensive playcalling was daring enough, but...the strength was in the defense, and they carried the day :)
