New feature: embedded video -
admin - 01-15-2013
I've added a new embedded video feature. You don't need to know embedding code. Simply post the link.
For security purposes, I have limited the tool to play ESPN, YouTube and Facebook videos only.

Do you guys like the video appearing that large, or would you like me to resize it? You can always click the full screen icon.

Well, for that particular video, if you could blow it up to about 82" or so, that would be great! ;D

Great feature. I wonder if Vimeo videos can be embedded as well.

Beautiful.

Also, Ustream. If you know of another video host you'd like to see, keeping in mind the PG nature of our site, please let me know. It's probably on our list. I just don't want to enable direct posting of AVI, MOV, WMV, MP4, etc.

I suppose there is no standing in the way of technological progress, so I'll just hope the "privilege" isn't abused somehow. Excessive embedded video on pages can be annoying and create long page loading times. I'm talking to you, ESPN Stanford Football Blog!

Someone beat me posting that Final rose bowl highlight. I like that one.Â
But it's funny how I watch those highlight videos saying "I would have done that differently." I would always take a long #33 run and slow it to half speed from beginning to end... (perhaps inserting honky horn noises when a defender gets juked? "wah-WAHHH...") I would have showed the goal line stop in longer intense slow motion, maybe twice... would have done the Williamson 47-yarder in slo-mo...
I don't think these embedded videos will slow down this site. it only has to load one little player, comes up fast, and of course the length of the video is irrelevant -- *this* page only needs to load the player and the video comes up only if asked for.
I think the size is perfect. I'll push full screen icon if desired! ... anyway, this is really fun.
Now for my next dream... a site that would do a more comprehensive job of posting and indexing many key plays from games. All scoring plays, and all significant plays, just one play per video, all well-indexed and easy to find. Of course, the tangle in making that site would be about rights to the video and deals with the broadcasters etc... technically it would be easy.

I'm sorry, but I'm unable to embed Terry into our server.

The Vimeo clip plays beautifully on my tablet over wifi, in both low resolution and HD versions. The YouTube video does not run as smoothly even though it is lower resolution and should have less trouble loading.

Good god, why did I not watch this one earlier. OK, the bit with the footage from the ND game... That means you have a sense of humor.

Looks like the Vimeo clips won't show on IPhones. At least I assume Estephan and Shinsengumi included Vimeo clips my IPhone 4S can't see.

Both Vimeo and YouTube use Flash, which Apple does not support on it's portable devices. I think YouTube may redirect to a non-Flash version. Vimeo has an HTML5 player for the Flash impaired. But embedded video may not be automatically redirecting for you or you may not have the player installed. My tablet supports both but Vimeo seems to work better for some reason.

They must be Flash. Steve Jobs was resolute in that if he didn't like a technology, it wasn't going into his products! Some of those, such as removing removable media drives from laptops, have been revolutionary and have been copied throughout the industry. I'm not sure that this one fits in that category.

82 Card is right...on iOS devices, they are supposed to switch over to display an HTML5 version (at least I know youtube does) ... the reason why Vimeo is not switching it correctly in this thread, who knows.
But I pray so hard that apple and steve jobs chatter doesn't invade CardBoard, my LAST refuge from that stuff... Oh HEY! What do people think about Nunes, eh?? Should they have switched him earlier, eh? huh?

Sorry, I didn't see 82 Card's post when I posted.

I finally found a clip of me in the stands! It's about 0.1 sec long since everything else in the foreground is blocking me for the most part, but it's the post-catch celebration between Ertz and Toilolo. Cool!
