Not often Notre Dame & Rice mentioned in same discussion - Redrum - 02-16-2013
Bleacher Report has a survey of college football stadiums badly in need of renovation. The eastern half of K.al's Memorial Stadium with its porta-potti district missed, but that's probably because the BR writer was mesmerized by the new press box / gala suites thingee that hovers on the edge of the western side like the giant alien spaceship in
District Nine.
(Hey! It's off-season. Men's basketball just makes us want to slit our wrists and bleed out. If we want diversion, Bleacher Report is what we're stuck with)
Anyway, Notre Dame and San Jose St. make the list. As does Duke, but we're done with them. And a bevy of Louisiana directional schools (guess all the $$ go to LSU). Apparently the criteria is mostly some primal need for
expansion (whether the team's attendance merits it, or not) followed by decrepitude. Surprising how many Stanford has played in over the last couple of decades.

A Bleacher Report Catechism
Q. Father, is there ever an acceptable time to link to the Bleacher Report?
A: No. There is not even an acceptable time to read the Bleacher Report.
Q. Why, Father?
A: Because the Bleacher Report is a barnacle, a parasite leaching off of the wondrous beast that is the internet. It clogs our Google searches and pollutes our minds. It reduces us to particularly stupid versions of ESPN screamers. And it encourages them to do more.
Q. But what if it is the offseason and I am bored?
A: Make fun of kal or U.S.C.
Q. He has a preference?
A. He does.
Q. What if I link to the Bleacher Report as a way to make fun of kal or U.S.C.?
A. There is no acceptable time to link to the Bleacher Report, Timmy.
Q: My name is Jimmy.
A: Whatever, Kimmy.
Q. What will happen to those who consort with the Bleacher Report?
A: Those who are unrepentant readers of the Bleacher Report will be consigned to purgatory. (Do five Hail Marys, by the way, Blimpy.) Those who write for the Bleacher Report will be consigned to the Second Circle of Hell, along with those overcome by lust. They will be forced to watch Bill Plaschke composing one-sentence paragraphs and taking three-martini lunches, and their grandmothers will be saying, "You know, Pimmy, you have a talent for writing! I bet you could be a real Grantland Rice!"
Those who founded the Bleacher Report will be consigned to the Eighth Circle of Hell, along with those who practice fraud. They will spend their time in the most sweltering of saunas, overcome by thirst, as they survey a table regimented with cups of liquid -- ninety-nine of a hundred of which are full of odorless, tasteless laxative while one of a hundred has flat, metallic water from Arizona. Then they will be forced to meet with Venture Capitalists with no bathroom or refreshment breaks while the VC complains of not getting a high enough multiple.
Q. That sounds pretty bad.
A. It does, Winnie. Don't look at the Bleacher Report. And don't ever mention it again.
Pope Benedict was just about to put it into the official catechism and everything.
Based on comments on their bulletin board...NO - Redrum - 02-16-2013
That is the key thing with which they are struggle. It transcends the abbreviated regime of MacIntyre the Magnificent. Even with a marvelous season, as far as I can see, their home attendance is pretty weak. And, they raised prices last year. Lots of comments on how it's now way too pricey to make taking in a ball game a family event even once a year. I think the guy who ran the numbers put it at about $120 for a family of four. Apparently parking (SJSU doesn't have much near the stadium) takes a decent bite in that total. Hard to see a family shelling out that kind of money for even three games a year, much less a season.
They are caught in a bind. Strapped for cash in the athletic dept., football the only conventionally "revenue producing" sport, so they want attendance high...but their immediate cost pressures dictate raising prices as a way to get to revenue targets...which makes it harder to reach their long term goals. Compounded by fact that students are not supporting team like they used to. Function of such a high commuter total in the student mix. Also, they say, recent changes in the surrounding grounds have somehow limited fraternity tailgates, which cuts down on what should be their core constituency. Seriously, they said that. Drunk and semi-drunk 19-year-olds are the backbone of successful game attendance.

Q. So what can we do
besides read Bleacher Report, Dad?
A. Well, now you know
why not to read Bleacher Report, but now we need to make sure the lesson sticks.
Q. What are you going to do, Dad?
A. I'm going to take you to a Stanford men's basketball game and let Dr. Dawkins teach you the mind trick of wishing you were somewhere else.
Q. But where else would I want to go?
A.Â
Anywhere else. Don't worry. Daddy will take you out of the arena when you start clawing at your own eyes.
Q. What if where I wish to go is Bleacher Report?
A. Daddy will still have to punish you again...but whatever I do you'll know I do it out of love and it won't be as bad as going to see Dr. Dawkins.
What? Bleacher Report forbidden? -

Oh no! Now where can I go to see a slide show of the 53 worst whatchamacallits in sports history?

I'm just going to take a wild guess here and say you didn't understand the use of the word "Father" in the original post.
BTW, it's time to make fun of SC or kal.

Or....did he?!?!?
You might very well think that; I couldn't possibly comment.
