Devante Downs - OutsiderFan - 07-23-2013

The Cal Rivals site just updated the recruitment of Downs.  It's down to Stanford, Cal, and Vandy.

Cal wants him as a RB.  Not sure about Stanford or Vandy.  He projects to be a 240-250 lb. player at either RB or ILB.  Anyone know where Stanford projects him?  Downs would be a pretty awesome get for any program IMO, based on his video:

It appears Downs wants to get away from UW and vales academics.  Would be cool to get Brand-Sims and Downs out of the Husky's backyard.

Very important recruit. After this year we don't have any ''power backs". He would most defiantly fill that role for us.

All signs point to RB - Redrum - 07-23-2013

Every discussion I've seen,  including those about other RBs on Stanford's interest list,  always factor in Downs as a RB for us.  Stanford wants him as a RB as long as he can be a power back with decent speed and agility.

Stanford wants him at RB but I think that is mainly because we need a big back badly. He seems like a better fit for LB IMO. I've also seen him say in interviews he'd like to play OLB. Maybe he starts at RB like Anthony Barr and then makes the switch after 1-2 years if that doesn't pan out.

He is actually listed on some recruiting data bases as a Fullback rather than a pure running back.  Most of the discussion on his fit with Stanford is as an "all purpose" back.  We have already taken one true FB in this class:  Daniel Marx.  K.al doesn't really use a Fullback in their new scheme, but might need a bigger back for some situations.  Downs is listed as having a K.al offer, but it's not clear how they would use him.  Also,  K.al already has 2 RB commits (3-stars) and has offered all-everything RB Joe Mixon.  If they get Mixon,  would they take a fourth RB?    Stanford has McCaffrey as a RB and Marx FB.  Would we take another RB?
