Kiffin Complains -
Farm93 - 10-11-2010
Looks like Kiffin has ventured onto JH\'s complain about the officials path.
Complaint #1 - The clock did not start on first down at the 3 in the 4th quarter.
I noticed this one too. The clock did not start once the ball was ready for play. Rather the clock started perhaps 12 seconds later. FWIW at the time I noticed that this was more on the refs on the field than with the clock operator. The umpire then removed a few seconds after the play, so the impact was likely several seconds, not 30. Stanford ultimately did not need that time, but that extra time may have changed the play calling.
Complaint #2 - The penalties were not close to even.
Seriously that is the complaint. USC had several bad penalties, so Kiffin should blame himself rather than the zebras. Stanford is well coached and usually has very few penalties, so I don\'t think this one has as much merit.

Quote:Kiffin also wondered about the discrepancy in calls. USC was flagged eight times while Stanford had just three penalties, all of which were either false starts or off-sides. USC has averaged 77 penalty yards per game this season. Only five FBS teams have been penalized for more yards. Stanford averages 48.2 yards of penalties per game.
Quipped Kiffin: "I\'m going to have to ask [Stanford] Coach [Jim] Harbaugh this offseason how he does such a great job."
I think JH has smart players and is a charismatic coach, that\'s how.
Also, Kiffin obviously didn\'t see the Oregon game or UCLA game. Â Stanford is apparently very poor on punt coverage. Â It\'s a wonder no one got flagged for kick-catch-interference or whatever it is that the refs use to even up things. Â USC should have tried fair-catching something late and either fallen down or taken off running.
Ummm. Lane saw the clock...and did NOTHING - Redrum - 10-11-2010
For a guy who is so worked up about it either Lane didn\'t have his head in the game when he could have easily brought it to any nearby ref\'s attention...OR... it just didn\'t dawn on him until too late.
And, he still had plays to burn. He could have taken a knee on one play and burned another 30 seconds, kept the ball out of our hands and STILL scored. But he didn\'t. They scored too quickly and his inattention cost his team.
So, now it\'s all the refs\' fault.

Quote:I think Harbaugh was just as concerned about the clock as Kiffen was. He wanted to score with no time at all left for a comback. He was definietely complaining about the clock not starting for Luck\'s little plunge to the right.
JH was on it. Â I saw that whole seen on the DVR. Â JH clearly wanted to know if USC called a timeout. Â Once it was clear that this did not happen, JH told the refs that he wanted to call a timeout at 4 seconds.
And the crew actually did a good job. Â Rather than trying endlessly to get the clock started and stopped, the ref just turned on the microphone and asked for the clock to be set at 4 seconds.
