There is so much more football to play...but THAT is a match-up that would absolutely get me excited - venue, opponent, everything.

Alamo Bowl not as enticing?
Nooooo! -
Kathy - 10-11-2010
Absolutely no Stanford-Missouri Alamo Bowl! I\'m pulling for a Stanford Rose Bowl and either the Orange or Fiesta for Mizzou (though the Tigers will most assuredly self-destruct against OU or Nebraska ...)

Credit Union Bowl is also known as the Poinsettia Bowl. (Did you know that 80% of all commercial poinsettias worldwide are grown in San Diego County?)
And the Poinsettia Bowl is hoping to upgrade from the Be
ars - San Diego State vs. Navy is clearly an improvement.

Quote:Also, what happened to the San Diego County Credit Union Bowl? Was having to settle for the 59ers last year so humiliating that they shut the thing down?
With the Alamo bowl getting wedged into the mix and with USC absorbing so many Pac-10 wins, I think everyone understood that the Pac-10 would not be able to fill a SDCCU slot.
With all of the naval activity in San Diego, the Navy tie-in they built for 2010 is a major upgrade for them.

Boise State is a much more beatable opponent than TCU...that said, Nevada might take out Boise State before the end of the season. Â TCU would be a pretty scary opponent, and it sucks for them that they have to settle for the MAACO bowl if not a BCS bowl.
I still don\'t feel like Ohio State survives the Big 10 gauntlet. Â Actually, they just have to make it past Wisco and Mich. St.

Wisco barely made it past San Jose State (and clearly should have lost to ASU). Â Furthermore, the patsy-laden Buckeye (a.k.a. Hairless Nut) schedule doesn\'t even include Michigan State this year (the only other decent team in the perennially overrated Big 10), because that conference can\'t seem to admit that they actually have 11 teams now. Â Iowa could be a threat (despite their loss to Arizona) as could Michigan (due to the "big game" effect), but that\'s really it for them.

What are the Big Ten and Big XII going to call themselves next year? :-?

@2loyal:
gotcha. Â well, if tOSU wants to win the big10, they\'ll have to play someone decent in the conference championship--they do have a conference championship game, right? Â and iowa is still strong, i think...

FM, the Big 10 begins its conference championship game next season after it splits into two divisions.
tOSU can claim a spot in the NC game by going undefeated the rest of the way. Â And the Tournament of Roses Committee will once again gnash its teeth.
Re: CBS Sports Bowl Predictions -

IF I buy the rosy outlook (no pun intended) for Stanford\'s remaining games inherent in projecting Stanford to a BCS bowl, I\'d be more concerned about Michigan State going undefeated (which doesn\'t seem unlikely at all) than Ohio State.
Ohio State will take up a BCS slot with or without a loss. Michigan State, on the other hand, may not unless they are undefeated. And if the Big 10 gets 2 BCS slots, it\'s pretty much guaranteed that the Pac 10 will only get one since the SEC and the Big-12 will almost certainly take up two each.

Card Fan in OR - 10-11-2010
In terms of rooting interest, here is where I am at:
1. SU to win all remaining games.
2. UO to do likewise and play in NC.
3. BSU to go undefeated, and
4. OSU (The one in the midwest) to lose at least once and not win the Big-10.
That way we get Oregon and Boise (likely) in the NC game and a brobdingnagian chuckle about how those "West Coasters" don\'t play real football.
We likely get into the Rose Bowl and, ideally, play someone like MSU. I suppose it would be more fun to beat the Buckeyes. I just don\'t like them. Maybe I just can\'t get that image out of my head of Woody Hayes slugging the Clemson player.
OTOH, if the Buckeyes make it through their brutal schedule, I\'d love to see the Ducks run by them and us vs. Boise for the roses.
However, with Foles, Katz, Gribsby, Threet, Locker, and Vereen on the schedule, we have some formidable obstacles in front of us, so let\'s take them a game at a time.

I learned that tOSU doesn\'t have to play Mich St at all this season. Â That\'s one potential stumbling block out of the way for them. Â Who really has the defense to stop Pryor?

After the D. Thomas injury, I find it far more likely that Ore. loses at least once. The downside of their system is that their QBs take a lot of hits.
The key, for Stanford and everyone, is health. I daresay Stanford has shown that it can withstand some key injuries on offense, but we really need all the starters on D to stay healthy. There\'s just not enough depth.
Re: CBS Sports Bowl Predictions -

Did anyone find some karmic justice in hearing that Oregon seemed shell-shocked when Kenjon Barner took a vicious hit and had to be carted off the field? Â Not over the hit, but the reaction to it--Lamichael James fumbled on the next carry, I think. Â Definitely reminded me of Luck\'s interception thrown after that Oregon defender nearly took Owusu\'s head off.
Nate Costa reportedly did all right in relief of Darron Thomas. Â Oregon will have to run into a buzzsaw of a defense while suffering offensive injuries for an upset to happen.

Had the radio on last night and was idly listening to Ducks fans complaining about their game in Pullman - how crappy the facilities are, how far out in the boonies it is, how eerily quiet the stadium was, how it didn\'t have any atmosphere and how rude all the WSU fans were. Â This from a program where a running back sucker-punched an opposing player on national TV and the starting QB was kicked off the team for theft and marijuana posession.
Re: CBS Sports Bowl Predictions -

T-shirt seen on a Duck fan in Eugene: \'We love our Thugs\' (\'We love our Ducks\' is a common shirt. This variant was amusing.)
I also heard the chant "Where are our laptops?"
So Oregon fans have no illusions about exactly who the people are who wear yellow and green. But they cheer for them anyway.
Re: CBS Sports Bowl Predictions - Pastor - 10-12-2010
I was at Maylon-Sweet airport in Eugene to pick up a friend for the UO/SU game and saw several of the recruiters greet recruits as they came off the various flights. Always the same greeting, "Welcome home Bro." After a couple of the recruits moved to their transport, the chief recruit would mutter things like, "What a lunkhead." So indeed, they know what they are recruiting.
Haven\'t heard \'lunkhead\' for a long time...he must be from the Midwest.
In classes, the UO, and many other schools, actually has people who take the athlete-students to their courses or come and count the number of attendees to be sure that their charges are indeed in the classes. As foreign to those of us from places like Stanford, education is very different in other places. If education is what you call it.
Re: CBS Sports Bowl Predictions -

Babysitters! Â I wonder if those people also took notes for the athlete-students?
