Thinking about Pasadena -

No, not about January 1.
I saw the press release that the Rose Bowl will be renovated for $152 million. The most important venue in the West will get completely updated for $152 million. The project includes safety enhancements, club seating, video boards, etc. Based on the images the place will undergo a MAJOR facelift. Not as dramatic as Stanford Stadium, but clearly a big time project.
I couldn\'t help but wonder...Why exactly does it cost $321 million to renovate one side (phase II) of Memorial Stadium?
I have come to accept that C.a.l can\'t replicate Stanford\'s efficiency or budget discipline, but apparently the Regents should have outsourced the work to the Pasadena team. Compare and contrast for yourself.

Mind blown. Â My first reaction is how the Rose Bowl, Â always a neutral place where its heritage was foremost over whatever team was playing, Â is now building in UCLA architectural features. Â I guess that\'s what it takes to get someone to sign a longterm lease, but man what price for Pasadena to pay.
The last time the Rose Bowl got significantly ugraded was back in the 1920s. Â That\'s when the old, crappy Rose Bowl was considered a modern marvel. Â My grandfather got in on funding that (from local sources) and in successive minor upgrades and sprucing ups. Â We got freebie tickets to Rose Bowl games up into the 1950\'s. Â Â
