Bye Week To-Do List - rwait08 - 10-13-2010
I\'m sad there\'s no football on Saturday, but I\'m also looking forward to some healing and re-tooling during the bye week. My top 3:
- Get healthy! It would be great if we can go into the WSU game with a full stable of RBs and WRs. MT3 looked like a different player during the last two games - hopefully some R&R will get him his burst back.
- Ball control. Do I need to elaborate?
- Open field tackling. Same.
Anything you\'d like to add to the wishlist?

Perfectly timed bye-week. Arizona and Oregon St. are at home. I think the football team has a decent chance of finishing 11-1.

Here\'s jacketree\'s 6-6 preseason prediction breakdown:
Quote:Sac State - win or quit football (W)
at UCLA - once again need one final stop in Rose Bowl (L)
Wake - why not (W)
at ND - see week 2 (L)
at Oregon - Autzen\'s rocking for revenge (L)
USC - pissed off team with talent (L)
WSU - jeez (W)
at UW - Halloween, surprise team of year (L)
AZ - I said 6-6 so they better (W)
at ASU - ditto (W)
at UC - \'trette has lorded this over me long enough (W)
OSU - Beavers peaking (L)
The Oregon and USC analyses were right on, though we beat USC. I don\'t think we lose at UW, and without one half of the Brothers Rodgers, I think we can beat OSU as well. The Arizona/ASU analyses doesn\'t give me much confidence though. Those might be shootout games if we can\'t stop Foles/Grigsby or Threet.

I still have 9-3 (no, I don\'t know where the next two losses are coming from--I rate Stanford as a slim-to-decent favorite in most of the remaining games. If you have a lot of 60-40 propositions, eventually you lose a few. Arizona and Oregon State, if I have to guess.)
Re: Bye Week To-Do List - Pastor - 10-14-2010
UW has about as much chance of beating us as a Democrat has in the upcoming election.
Re: Bye Week To-Do List -
washingtonismoney - 10-14-2010
So you\'re saying a pretty decent chance? Republicans won\'t win more than 53-55% of the vote.
Re: Bye Week To-Do List - Pastor - 10-14-2010
If the Reps get that vote (53-55%), they will win every election....
No, I\'m saying there\'s a chance but it is not likely
Re: Bye Week To-Do List -
washingtonismoney - 10-14-2010
Overall, they\'d win the election, but obviously several Democrats will win, which I took to be the meaning of your original quip. But since you mean party v. party, that\'s that (and I disagree.) UW will be a tough opponent up in Seattle even if the weather\'s good.
Re: Bye Week To-Do List - Pastor - 10-14-2010
They appear to have played 3 games at home this year, lost two and won one...it is a medium hard place but nowhere near the difficulty of playing at NDU or UO

Alrighty,
Let\'s play political predictions.
Using the fivethirtyeight.com type model. Â I would guess that Stanford will be favored in each of the remaining games. Â Therefore 11-1 is possible. Â However, each game carries a reasonable chance for that hated L.
My guess is that if you threw the 6 games into a fivethirtyeight type model, Stanford likely has a 50-50 chance of going 9-3 or worse.
Oh, and that assumes that Luck stays healthy. Â Any injury to Luck and the Ls will come fast and furious. Â Since injuries are always possible, my guess is that 11-1 would appear rather unlikely in a model.
But it is nice to know that 11-1 is still possible.

All things are possible--the dreaded injury bug dangles over the fortunes of all Pac-10 teams at the moment. Â I wonder if James Rodgers is coming back for the Beavers\' last game...

Farm 93, Ken Massey has a computer model of college teams and he even helpfully provides such predictions:
http://www.masseyratings.com/team.php?t=7582&s=98700
At this point in the season, he gives us a 12.2% chance of going undefeated the rest of the way, with an "expected record" of 4.3-1.7. Â The last four games will be a gauntlet - 4 straight top-30 (3 top 20) teams, half on the road. Â Massey\'s table of other\'s college football rankings is fun to look at too:

I am not loving the mere 53% chance of winning Big Game. Â Actually feels right, but still didn\'t like it. Â I guess this means I should hope USC really helps C.a.l learn that their place is still below USC. Â With a few more losses, it is hard to believe C.a.l will be able to hold it together into late November.

Spiny_Norman - 10-15-2010
Cal did a good job of keeping it together last November just long enough to beat us. Â They may not be as fragile as you hope, Farm93.
Cal concerns me more than any other opponent left on the schedule. Â I would not have been surprised if Massey had calculated Stanford\'s probability of winning to be < 50%.
