God, I miss the Bay Area - Redrum - 11-01-2010
Just got off the phone with the Redrumette. I spent Saturday fixing a dog door. She spent Saturday in San Francisco at the DNA Lounge mash-up party, Mash-ups, where people in mixed-metaphor costumes dance to two songs mashed together by a DJ. The line stretched for three blocks, but the clever lass and cohort had bought online and jumped that other line. The winner of the costume contest (remember, two themes mashed together) was a guy who was a transformer. Little short of concept points, but blew them away on execution. Just a weird techno guy standing up, but when he hunkered down on the floor, he transformed into an amazingly realistic police car. Second place was won by an Asian woman who was Lil\' Kim Jong Il in a minidress that would make the real Lil\' Kim blush.. and the whole red-star military cap. Her group scored a fourth with Mr. T Party, who did a credible bling/muscles/mohawk Mr. T. carrying a "I Pity the Fool Who Raises My Taxes" sign.
That was Saturday. Halloween was spent doing one of those high-end Bay Area treasure hunts that required them to trick or treat their way around Berkeley. Three CS advanced degrees and a neuroscientist and they couldn\'t even place. Waaaay off their usual game. But they do 8-10 a year so there\'s always the one put on by Google employees. Fiendishly complex, I hear. We have  "Wetback Wednesdays" at a local bar.
I could be wrong.
Maybe it\'s just because Redrumette and cohort are
young.. But maybe not. Here in N. Alabama, the hottest thing going is the corn maze with recorded screams and spooky music playing from loudspeakers and the farmer\'s teenage son jumping out at odd times and brandishing a baseball bat covered in stage blood.
I wonder if the DNA Lounge has franchise opportunities.

I miss the geo-puzzle hunts (a la The Game, etc). Â
I spent the whole weekend in Dallas at what pretty much amounted to big house party (costume themed) thrown by swing/blues social dancers in Dallas with people in attendance from mostly Texas but a few from all over the USA as well. Â I started my drive back to Austin at 5AM Monday, exactly 1 hr after the party ended. Â Dancers are crazy; not sure I want to risk sleep and sanity hanging with these folks :p
I have yet to hang out on 6th street during Halloween in Austin.

Definitely miss The Game...I figure there\'s gotta be something similar in NYC but haven\'t found it yet. At least the subway system theoretically alleviates the need to be driving after awake for 30 hours straight.

Hey Redrum, you can\'t complain too much about the cultural scene in your hometown -- you folks in Huntsville can claim one of the major pop culture touchstones of the year: the Bed Intruder song. I\'ve been told by my college student son that it\'s even more ubiquitous than the "double rainbow guy" video. . .
P.S. For those of you who don\'t know about the Bed Intruder phenomenon, first watch this news clip --

Oh, yeah, Â Antoine - Redrum - 11-01-2010
No kidding, Â he is already planning a line of clothes and is trying to shop around a reality show based on him. Â Maybe next year they\'ll have him jumping out at people in the corn maze.
