I liked Hulk's thread so much that I wanted to add another set of songs. The catch are that these are (largely) my kids' songs, but the ones I can tolerate. For this reason, they tend to be poppie-er.
One Republic: Counting Stars. My two year old daughter loves to jump up and down to this song. I first heard it in the parking lot on the way out of the UCLA game, so I have strong positive associations even though I don't care for any of One Republic's other songs. But this one is catchy.
https://play.spotify.com/track/1fh2TfUOtOoXEE8qQynYEC
Daft Punk: Get Lucky (already on the original list). I know I shouldn't expose my kids to this, but the song was everywhere and it was virtually impossible not to. What I do like is that they still take the idea of being up all night to "get lucky" literally and they haven't asked, though I wouldn't be surprised if my 9 year old has figured it out.
Owl City: Fireflies. My kids liked "Good Time" better, but it got old very quickly (and it feature Carly Rae Jepsen, who I can't stand). Then I heard my son's class perform Fireflies in a winter concert and I liked it much better. I can see why the chose it; it's a good kids tune, but also likable enough for me.
https://play.spotify.com/track/3DamFFqW32WihKkTVlwTYQ
Lady Gaga: Applause. She's incredibly talented (dropped out of NYU). It's not my favorite track, but it's the kids' (along with Alejandro)
https://play.spotify.com/track/63LAR8TGAGvpfLLM8Z1weo
Passenger: Let her go (already on the original list). My daughter likes this one, and it is probably the only non-pop song on the list
Ellie Goulding: Lights. Probably the first song my 2-year old started kicking her legs to in the car. Just loved it for a while
https://play.spotify.com/track/1JP779IkUMANQVaPGzc6Ld
Calvin Harris (with Goulding on vocals): I Need Your Love. Another track that features Goulding's impressive voice.
https://play.spotify.com/track/05SBRd4fXgn8FX7bf8BCAE
Don Omar & Lucenzo: Danza Kuduro. My older daughter is in a Spanish immersion class and loves that the song features some Spanish (as well as Portuguese) in it. Kuduro is actually an 80's Angolan dance music (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuduro) that was picked up by a French/Portuguese artist who originally wrote the song; Don Omar is a Puerto Rican Reggaeton artist who released this catchy alternative version. It's fun and it works.
https://play.spotify.com/track/2a1o6ZejUi8U3wzzOtCOYw
Stevie Wonder: Superstition. What's this song doing here, you ask? Well, you know those Bud Light commercials? My youngest latched on to the song from them. The guitar riff is pretty awesome, though.
https://play.spotify.com/album/5x7vXXWapy8cUmdSuwpUy1/4dwrL3Z5U2RZ6MZiKE2PgL
John Williams: The London Symphony Orchestra: Duel of the Fates. Yeah, the oldest loves Star Wars, and though I much prefer the Throne Room song (especially the LSJUMB version) for my Star Wars kick, Duel of the Fates was about the only redeeming thing to come from Episode I.
https://play.spotify.com/track/6mOS5otVnh103JwefAKhwS
Klaus Badelt: He's a Pirate (from the Pirates of the Carribean soundtrack). Another one that my oldest son loves because of the movie, but I have to say it does fit the movie perfectly, and you can almost hear Jack Sparrow utter, "Gentlemen, My Lady, you will always remember this as the day you
almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow"
https://play.spotify.com/track/08QaHlMPWuO5PUxjl61bXn
Overwerk: Daybreak (especially the GoPro version). The GoPro video that accompanies it is awesome, and I've always wanted to set a Stanford football highlight tape to it.

Enjoy and please add.

Excellent. . .And Poppie is good.
So grateful to be introduced on this thread to Vienna Tang. I've recommended her to several other Stanfordians and my 400 Facebook friends all over the world, including Stephanie Chew ('73), Cathleen Caballero ('70), and Don Rooks ('73).Â
Love Daft Punk.Â
One more: Love love Dominoes by Big Pink. Addictive.
Will check your list. I am wearing down Fake Empire by The National....

Superstition is a remarkable song. Not sure there are any keyboard players here, but if there are, perhaps they can reveal what makes this song so unusual--perhaps truly unique.
The answer is far below--Spoller alert.
The song is played entirely on the black keys.

Did you all know that there was once a French garage band that split into Phoenix and Daft Punk?
Speaking of France, my latest musical obsession is "Paris" by Friendly Fires.

Once you hear Vienna Teng it's impossible to avoid becomming an evangelist.

I want to echo what you said about Vienna Tang. And I want to thank you for introducing me to Rhye. While I've always been impressed with Sadé's voice, I never got into her music. For whatever reason, Open is much more accessible and Hannibal's vocals are every bit as good.

Thanks for the playlists. I'm so disconnected from music today (not that I ever was that connected). Good to hear new and different things, and really like Vienna Teng. Who said singers can't be smart too. . . .

Vienna Teng puts on a great live show, too. I saw her a few times a while back, when she was playing smaller venues, and she's one of those performers who plays even better live than recorded. If she swings through your area in the future, I'd recommend trying to catch a performance.
Thanks to all for the suggestions.

This was a feature of a This American Life segment.

It's the default hold music for Cisco phones, and apparently it has a following. I don't think I'd ever ask to be on hold, but it could be worse.

The latest Pharrell/Daft Punk collaboration is quite good:

Thanks. Williams' new album comes out Monday, I believe. Looking forward to it.
In the meantime, I found this cool rendition of
Careless Whisper in a vintage 1930's remix. Kudos for throwing in a bar from
Take Five.

There is also a postmodern jukebox rendition of Get Lucky, though I don't like it as much:

I hope this means Pharrell will ditch that silly mountain hat for one of those much cooler Daft Punk helmets.

Love it. The Take Five sample was the best part. Wham! was very big when mainland China started opening up to western pop culture in the 80s. Careless Whisper was very popular with the younger set because it allowed them to slow dance up close. The older couples preferred Wake Me Up Before You Go Go! because they could keep a respectful physical distance from each other while dancing.
Another song -

Added more because the video is pretty awesome (it was shot entirely in an FLIR thermal camera. Warning, it is a bit racy so depending on your work environment it may not be suitable for work.

Heard it in this thread about Songs about Science... which might deserve its own thread.

Also, didn't realize that TMBG released an updated song to correct their song "The Sun Is a Mass of Incandescent Gas" (it's not a gas, as this song notes, it's actually a "miasma of plasma"
