CU fires Hawkins

Re: First Major Coaching Change of the year - washingtonismoney - 11-09-2010

CU rumored to want:

Jim Harbaugh
John Harbaugh
Jack Harbaugh
The Children of Both Harbaughs
The Unborn Children of Both Harbaughs
Buddy T.eevens.
W.alt H.arris.

That\'s only HALF a change.   No risk to Harbaugh - Redrum - 11-09-2010

Colorado got burned by hiring Hawkins and not the brains behind the outfit-- then-OC Chris Peterson.    It\'s possible this time they will be looking for the brains (good scheme and game decision-making) this time around.  They might look at the Stanford staff and give coaches involved in the offense-- Shaw, Roman
a look on the theory that the tough Stanford run game is what they want, too.   OTOH,  there is no knowing if Harbaugh really is the offensive driving gear in the offensive coaching side.

Can\'t see one upside to Colorado for Harbaugh.  He\'s proved he can rebuild wrecks.   Now it\'s about  one or all of the Big 3 ( Money/Prestige/ Showplace worthy of his talents).

Brewster was ousted from Minnesota\'s HC position last month, but I guess that may not be a major change, as early season losses to such schools as a directional state university from one of the Dakotas were early indicators.

Blowing a 3+ TD lead to Kansas in 12 minutes to lose...now that\'s pretty bad.

Don\'t forget that Bellotti\'s floating out there and he has made noises indicating that he\'s available.

Just for the heck of it, I am going to start the rumor that Chip Kelly is headed toward the NFL Cowboys.....a little trouble in Duckville.....

Most of the talk in Colorado is about bringing in an extremely successful local high school coach for CU.  Harbaugh\'s name has not been mentioned prominently.

Colorado\'s epic 4th quarter collapse to Kansas, in which Kansas scored 35 points in 14 minutes, is what everybody is talking about.  Many local commentators have pointed out that if CU had simply taken the ball and run it -- three and out -- every single play, they would have won the game no matter what Kansas did.  Hawkins\' series of bad decisions is one of those things that will go down in boneheaded college sports history.

Talk to the Univ. of North Texas about hiring a successful HS coach to run a D1 program.  Didn\'t work for them.  They had Todd Dodge, from the famed Southlake Carroll HS program, and in these last few years, nothing amazing has happened.  He was fired last month after less than four years.

FIC and FM,

I think the best case for not hiring a high school coach is Gerry Faust of NDU.  Not even close.

Re: First Major Coaching Change of the year - gbiddulph - 11-10-2010

Just to be clear, I am not a big CU fan and I cannot say that CU\'s primary plan is to hire a successful HS coach.  This is based on listening to several hours of talk radio.  What I have heard is that this is being considered and I have not heard the name Harbaugh.  But it\'s possible my perspective does not reflect anything near the totality of what CU boosters (I am not one) are thinking/planning/saying.

Nice try FIC .... We still hold you responsible for the State of Colorado trying to poach our coach.  I\'m on the phone arranging the barrels of hot tar and goose feathers as I type.   :-)

From the article, says that CU is in a financial crunch so can\'t afford to pay for a "big time" candidate. Harbaugh won\'t even be on the table...

This should be the case at most institutions, no?  Well, maybe not those that have Phil Knight or T. Boone Pickens and benefactors.

Re: First Major Coaching Change of the year - Robbie - 11-10-2010

And I suspect that there are some \'don\'t steal a coach from a future fellow conference member\' dynamics going on also.

There are jobs that I could see Harbaugh contemplating:
- Michigan
- Penn State if Paterno retires
- Vikings
- Cowboys
- other NFL jobs from a team with good ownership and fan support
- other college jobs from a school with long-standing tradition and fan support

But Colorado would be a lateral move at best.

Re: First Major Coaching Change of the year - washingtonismoney - 11-10-2010

Considering CU facilities have been described as the "Bangladesh of the the Big 12," (and considering the only reason they didn\'t fire Hawkins last year was money), I\'m sure they won\'t splurge on a coach.
