It WAS on doctor\'s orders... - Redrum - 11-14-2010

At least, that\'s what Wilkerson said in the post game interview.  They were instructed not to score or to run out of bounds.  Maybe a little wiggle room for interpretation because the question was framed by the reporter.

Fun interview, BTW.   Gotta love Luck.  Wilkerson seems almost pathologically modest.

SFGate reported the same information.

Either AW\'s football savvy ranks up there with people with years of college and NFL experience or those with years of college and NFL experience told him to just get the first down and keep the clock moving.

Either way...AW got the first down, the clock kept moving and Stanford won on the road with minimal additional effort.

afaik, the clock stops after first downs are gained--in college.  that\'s why i was surprised that he didn\'t just run it out of bounds after the first down.  but hey, if he\'s playing with a sunday football rulebook...good for him.

The clock stops for the refs to reset the ball, but it restarts when the ball is set for play, so you can runoff the playclock. Taking the ball out of bounds stops the clock until the next snap.

I thought it was a smart football play, if a bit odd to see. At least it\'s getting play on ESPN, which provides a bit of a contrast to the 83 point pasting from Wisconsin.
