Stanford WBB beats Rutgers 63 - 50 - sheriand - 11-15-2010
It wasn\'t a stomping, but it was a win in our first real game of the season. Â Tara started Kayla, Jeannette, Nneka (the big three) and Cheney and Joselyn. Â Sarah Boothe came in for a few minutes in both halves and didn\'t look sharp yet, although she did make one two-pointer. Â Toni Kokenis got a lot of minutes and looked good, despite a couple of rookie mistakes. Â She has a lot of poise and can keep up in a fast tempo game. Â Â Cheney looked very good. Â I like her aggressiveness and her fearlessness. Â Joselyn looked much improved, making two threes early in the game and showing some good defensive moves. Â The team had a lot of turnovers and very poor three point shooting, but I think they will improve quickly in both these areas. Â The schedule is going to get very tough, very quickly, so this team needs to capitalize on every learning experience.

I hope no one got shot in the face this time.

Cheney looked very good. Â
Who would have guessed a grumpy, face-shooting, heart-holding-on-by-a-thread,  Washington insider  still had game at 70 years old?  At guard, no less.  I would have pegged him for a very immobile low post.

Apparently they did more than his heart in the hospital the last time, after all, this was women\'s basketball.

Ha, ha, typing too fast. Â Chiney. Â Though the other would have been entertaining.
Sara James got in for a couple of minutes. Â It was a good baptism for her. Â I think she\'s really going to be able to contribute, especially her outside shot, which we need, but she has to adjust to the pace.

Tara used a six-woman rotation even though Chiney only played 21 minutes. Â I hope more women will get to play during the year.

Did Sara James play much? How did she look?

Whereas Toni K has been confident and decisive on the court, Sara J has been more careful, holding something back. She\'s playing way within herself. She just needs more experience to play more instinctively.
What he have not seen with any of our freshmen is that deer-in-headlights look. Sara looks comfortable in the game, just not naturally loose and quick.
