Resurrected Peter Kalambayi discussion -
OutsiderFan - 08-28-2014
Since the original thread went off the rails from its intended purpose...
Stanford fans sort of expected James Vaughters and Noor D., as heavily recruited guys, to have brobdingnagian impacts early in their careers. Though Vaughters has played a lot, he hasn't been spectacular, and Noor D. isn't going to really see much PT until this, his third year in the program it seems.
Now we have another highly touted LB recruit in Peter Kalambayi poised to get his first action. Will he have the kind of immediate playmaking impact we expected from Davis and Vaughters, or will he also struggle to make his presence felt early in his career?
It sure would be nice to see Kalambayi take away the starting spot from Anderson or Vaughters as the season wears on, because that will indicate he in fact is a big-time player.

I expect Kalambayi to be a significant player this season - whether or not he officially dislodges Vaughters or Anderson as the starter. And I'll go one step further and say that Kalambayi will prove to be a star LB for the Cardinal in the coming years.
BTW, I expect Anderson, Vaughters, and Kalambayi to all have good seasons for the Cardianl in 2014.Â

Until a player has stepped onto the field and shown some promise in live games, I tend to not get overly excited about the recruiting hype. Only for a real headliner recruit like an Andrus Peat would I be looking forward to a given player getting game action. Other than that, I just trust the coaches to figure out which player gives us the best chance of winning and get excited to watch the team as a whole compete.
I get more excited by the unheralded guys who exceed all expectations, a la Ben Gardner, than I do blue chip recruits.

So glad Ben Gardner called out Sark via tweet.Â

Farmboy, in this day and age, I agree with you.
But in the not-too-distant past, Stanford fans could catch a practice or two on the rail and make their own impressions. Now, only a practice or two is open to the public for viewing, and those are pretty controlled. Thus, I have to rely on rumblings I hear from "insiders" - and the reviews on Kalambayi are positive. So, that's the hearsay basis of my prognostications.Â
The good news is that we shall soon see for ourselves.
