Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe there wasn't a single injury for either team? I can't remember the last time I saw a college game that played out that way.
Another reason to smile out of many.

Just because.

If I remember correctly, his blocker was also called for holding on that play.

Think my favorite was when Parry got double teamed got under the lineman and hit the running back in the legs flipping him over

That was definitely my favorite. Actually thought about sending him an email but decided that would be too stalkery. Some people get excited about passes or runs. I get excited about great line play.

Parry looked like a mack truck out there. I'm excited to see the DL get better.

don't want to be a downer, but I was a tad disappointed in Williamson. Some PAT's seemed weak, missed a FG, and I only remember one kickoff being deep in the end zone. I was hoping he would be ready for a season that would make him a pro prospect, but this game did not look that way.Â

The missed FG was indeed worrying, but I think the kickoff depth was intentional. They were being caught right at the 1, so they had no choice but to attempt a return. And I think that worked, Davis's starting field position was, what, the 15? They were constantly in the shadow of their end zone.

I think that's exactly right. At the time I thought I noticed a look of disgust on Williamson's face when it went into the endzone. Why give them the ball on their 20 when you can stuff them?

In the NCAA, a touchback on a kickoff is brought back to the 25 yard line, so it is even worse.

Thanks for the info, FGkickingiswinning. I hope it's not too serious--never like to see anyone hurt, but it's got to be roughest for seniors.

I understand this rule was meant to improve player safety by discouraging kickoff returns. The idea was that the returner would take a knee in the end zone instead of bringing it out. But the result has been shorter kickoffs to force a return. So I think the rule change was a failure.
But from a fan's point of view, fewer touchbacks and more returns make the game more fun to watch...

Not entirely. Because the kicking team is starting 5 yards closer and the receiving team is t typically starting in front of the goal line, it gives the teams less of a chance to collide at full speed.

I think at one point a UC Davis player suffered a foot injury. They were ready to stop play for him, but he found a way to hobble off. I don't know if he came back, but my guess is he would be on their injury report if they have such a thing at UCD.
