What could have been: Taysom Hill - Redrum - 09-11-2014
Watching BYU/Houston. QB Taysom Hill is an absolute beast. BIG. Appears bigger than everyone on offense other than interior linemen. RIPPED, Has a tight end's build. Accurate. His throws go out almost flat with lots of velocity. Very accurate although Houston isn't really hindering his completions at this point. Runs like Luck, but better. What a downer to see him playing so well in the wrong uniform. The Hogan controversy would be non-existent. I favor an NCAA rule that all QB commits who go on LDS missions have to come back to the school to which they committed because "commitment" supposedly means more to LDS kids. If after one year, they want to leave, then go through the normal transfer protocol. Taysom Hill alone also makes me advocate threatening to kill their dog if they switch.

I decided to tune in to see what you were talking about. Perhaps the first half was more impressive, but I can' say I would trade him for Hogan. But it's hard to compare when they run such different offenses, against different opponents (Houston is no US.C) and with different personnel around them.

I don't think he would have beat out Hogan. But he definetly could be our starting RB. On BYU's roster he's listed at 6 foot 2 and 232 lbs.

Matt Hinton on Grantland wrote about Hill in his weekly college QB article.

Hill is much more of a runner than a passer especially in obvious passing situations. I don't think he would have won the starting job over Hogan. Although Hinton rates Hill as the 9th best QB and Hogan as the 11th (or at least first on the honorable mention list).

With the numbers that Hill is putting up, I don't think anyone could really say that Hill wouldn't have a shot at competing with Hogan. His destruction of Texas last year and this year are reminders to me that Hill was recruited to be the Andrew-Luck-type QB after Andrew Luck. Well, I mean his numbers seem pretty, esp that W-L record right now.

We could have installed a package of plays where instead of Hogan handing the ball off to Hill he would split out as a receiver and Hill would take a direct snap. It would essentially give us an extra blocker, so it would be very difficult to defend. Although, I imagine that after we ran it a few times the defenses would figure out what we were doing and we'd be forced to abandon it.Â

In the several quarters I saw last year, Hill looked like a single wing quarterback who could throw well enough to make that a threat. Maybe he played well last night, but as a fan I would hold my breath whenever he released a pass.
Well, I see Houston made a game of it - Redrum - 09-12-2014
I watched the first quarter and Hill owned it. Was up 23-0 before Houston finally got going. Guess it's a good thing so many here think Hogan is the guy. Fact: he IS the only guy. It doesn't matter if we'd prefer someone else. But, that was some quarter of Taysom Hill football.  Onward.

I know we are semi-contemporaries so I'm sure you remember that a single wing QB was mainly a blocker who rarely touched the ball. Or maybe I'm not remembering it right.

Your are right CI, Hulk means a single wing tailback ala Billy Kilmer at UCLA.Â
