Women's Golf at NCAA Final - BigEasyCard - 05-22-2015

Stanford tees off at 1:06 EDT.  UCLA currently in 12th place halfway through their first round at plus 21.  Duke currently leads at plus 3.

Geaux Cardinal!

Looks like they waxed the greens and put alligators in the fairways.  Golf course playing very tough.

Re: Women's Golf at NCAA Final - fullmetal - 05-22-2015

You're telling me.  Of the teams that have finished play today, Duke leads with +5.  The median of the teams that have finished is +20 (12 teams done).

Stanford is even through holes 3-5, tying Purdue for first (through 6-9).

UCLA is dead last (24th place) at +31.  Arkansas, second to last, is +22.  Ruined Bruins.

Re: Women's Golf at NCAA Final - slide - 05-22-2015

our #5 player started out par, quintuple bogey so effectively we are playing the remainder of the day as a 4 person team.

Re: Women's Golf at NCAA Final - fullmetal - 05-22-2015

Ms. Eijkenboom pretty much took herself out of the picture on hole #2 :(  But such is the game.  She's at +8 through 6 (two pars, three bogeys, one quint bogey...oh dear).

Duke, the morning session leader, had a similar situation with their #5 struggling on the course.  Not a big deal to have one player struggle with a course in the stroke play format, but a touch more problematic in match play.

Top 15 team after three rounds, play in the final round.  Top 8 after the fourth round then advance to match play.  Lots can change day to day, but it looks like Stanford will be in the mix.

Re: Women's Golf at NCAA Final - fullmetal - 05-22-2015

If you think this round is taking a long, long time to finish, you'd be correct.

Quote:Afternoon Tee Times have been delayed by 30 minutes now starting at 12:30.
Play was delayed from 3:45 to 4:44 for lightning.

Maybe the wind is also throwing a few shots around.

Stanford is now -1 through 5-7 for first place, which doesn't mean much being only through holes 5-7 however.

Re: Women's Golf at NCAA Final - CornFed - 05-22-2015

And Stackhouse is leading the individual competition, tied with Talley from Alabama.  It is, however, very early.  It is good, though, to get off to a good start.

Re: Women's Golf at NCAA Final - Spiny_Norman - 05-22-2015

The team has done a very good job of maintaining focus and being patient on a long, tough day.  Stanford is in 1st place with about 2/3 of the back 9 still to play.  Stackhouse still atop the individual leaderboard too.

Play has been stopped again because of lightning.  It may mean the end of play today.

A reminder that the format of the championship is new this year.  Teams play 72 holes of stroke play.  The top 8 teams then progress to single elimination match play.

Re: Women's Golf at NCAA Final - fullmetal - 05-22-2015

Quote:At 7:15PM play has been suspended for the rest of the day.
1st Round will be resumed at 8:30AM
2nd Round will start at 9AM

At the break, Stanford is through holes 11-14 leading the field at +3.  But this means they finish Rd 1 in the morning and then play Rd 2 in the afternoon, right?  Hope they get sleep and nutrition...going to be a long day tomorrow.

Danielson is at +6 through 12...she quad-bogeyed the eighth hole :(  Stackhouse holds the sole lead at -4 through 12.  Talley is at -3 through 15.  There's a three-way tie for first among finished players at -2.

They were in the afternoon rotation today.  So I would think they would finish round 1 in the early AM, and then go right into playing round 2.  It does seem like it will be a long day. If the weather is favorable for low scores it will be OK.  New format makes finishing in the top 8 the stroke play goal.  Stanford is off to a good start.

Re: Women's Golf at NCAA Final - Spiny_Norman - 05-22-2015

Stanford will finish its 1st round then go back to the 10th tee to start the 2nd round.  Tee times from 10:00 to 10:40 am eastern.

Re: Women's Golf at NCAA Final - BobK - 05-23-2015

Finished the first round at plus 5 tied for first

Re: Women's Golf at NCAA Final - Farm93 - 05-23-2015

This course must be brutal.  How does the NCAA pick these courses?

The teams that finished the first round in the morning had awful results.  Those same teams are getting crushed by the course now in Round 2.  UCLA's +31 looked terrible, but now most of the schools are within 10 strokes of UCLA.  UCLA needs to go out there and likely will not play close to par, but it is amazing that +31 is in the running.

Re: Women's Golf at NCAA Final - CornFed - 05-23-2015

That +31 by UCLA definitely doesn't look too bad now.  Stanford is +26 today.  OUCH!!!

Stackhouse, however, remains in the lead by 1 for the individual title, through 15 holes.

Re: Women's Golf at NCAA Final - Farm93 - 05-23-2015

Baylor now at +28 with just a few holes left in round 2 is the clear leader, for those that played round 2 in the morning.

The teams in the lead have all just started the second round.  Duke, is +5 on the day and has only played a handful of holes.  Stanford had a bad day, but today +15 probably will be a very good round.

UCB is at +63.  Ugh!

Re: Women's Golf at NCAA Final - BobK - 05-23-2015

And now we are UCLA.  +31

Re: Women's Golf at NCAA Final - BobK - 05-23-2015

Plus 35 and thankfully done for the day.    Let's hope the teams playing still falls to our level.

Re: Women's Golf at NCAA Final - terry - 05-23-2015

Play has been suspended in round 2 with half the teams still on the course. Stanford is in 11th place. By the time this round is completed, Stanford could move up a spot or two. UCLA is in 16th place, 2 strokes behind Stanford, and is still on the course.

The top 15 teams will make the cut after Sunday's round. After Monday's round, the top 8 teams will advance to match play.
