I know; if I hear about that 52-game home thing again......

That\'s right, as Jeannette said, "I\'m just glad we defended Maples."

Glenn--

Had to watch the replay after getting home, and now am too exhausted to write up what I want to say.

Quick impressions--

Beyond the superlative game from Pohlen, what I want not to be lost in the shuffle is the blueprint of a defensive gameplan and execution by Chiney Ogwumike, Joslyn Tinkle and the whole team in frustrating Maya Moore all game long.  Of course, not many teams have players of that caliber to put on her, but Chiney especially showed that if you are willing to get up on her and in her space to not let her rise up for an uncontested jumper, and have teammates willing to support you against the drive, you can slow her down.

I admit, I was extremely petrified when I saw Missy Barlow working a big Stanford game again - I spent the entire game waiting for the inevitable "I must impact the game" call from her.  However, due credit, when she had a chance after blowing her initial call on an out-of-bounds play late, she corrected herself immediately.

On other women\'s b-ball boards, love how UConn fans were already complaining about how physical Stanford was.  I found it interesting that the only foul called on UConn while rebounding was when Moore dove into Pedersen\'s legs and wiped her out - no over the back calls, no grabs on Pedersen and Ogwumike as they cleared the boards.  Seemed like the only fouls being called defensively were perimeter-oriented, thus favoring UConn.  One other thing those blue-colored glasses folks might want to check - until the Huskies started fouling in the last minute to try to get back in the game, they had taken 16 FTs to Stanford\'s 10.

Anyhow, going to sleep at this point.  Will have a more full writeup, including stuff surrounding the game, tomorrow.

Go Card!

It was a very impressive performance, especially when all the momentum seemed to be going UConn\'s way when they went on something like an 11-2 run to end the first half and cut the lead down to four.

That was fun.  Can we do it again in April please?

By the way, this quote of Tara\'s from the NYT is my favorite from the game stories:
Quote:“People thought we were the plow horse team as opposed to the thoroughbred team.”

Hope everyone saw Rickard Sherman\'s quote the other day:  When we get to Stanford we are suddenly slow and unathletic to sports writers".

We showed "slow" last night.    ;D

Re: Stanford 71, UConn 59 - fullmetal - 01-01-2011

Spiny_Norman\'s right.  Stanford has to peak at the right time.  UConn goes back home knowing what their deficiencies are and will have a gameplan to improve themselves.

Thankfully (!!), Stanford also has a couple of nasty defeats from which to drawn ideas on improvement as well...
