Love seemed ok coming out of the tent at the Oregon game. My guess is we'll slow-play him. If he's not needed (which he shouldn't be), then I'd play Scarlett and Speights and save him for the end-of-season gauntlet. Of course, this might totally sink his chances of winning the Award That Shall Not Be Named. But maybe he'll be runner-up, as is tradition!!!

According to the depth chart, Thomas Schaffer is the backup to Dylan Jackson at DE.  Has anyone seen Schaffer on the field at all this year? I don't remember even seeing him on special teams.

Also, despite a rather mediocre performance Jordan Perez is apparently the full-fledged starter over Joey Alfieri at ILB now. Alfieri has played in the last three games, so one would think that whatever ailed him has abated, but Perez remains the starter. Quite a change from last year, when Joey was All-Conference honorable mention.

Though we obviously wish the DL were bigger and better, it's truly amazing how many guys on the depth chart have played and contributed significantly.  It's quite a deep team.

As for the RB position, nice to see Speights getting some opportunities.  He was quite impressive in Spring.

It definitely will. Love's only chances are:

1) Break Sanders's record, or at least 2500 yards.
2) Help us to win the Pac-12 while Barkley stumbles and PSU doesn't play in the B1G CG.

Sitting against ORST makes #1 basically impossible. Also, Publius will be happy because all Stanford fans need to be rooting for OSU to smother PSU this weekend.

It definitely will. Love's only chances are:

Unfortunately, it can't work that way.  Most of the voters will have cast their ballots by Halloween, based exclusively on pre-season ESPN promo packages, as supplemented by who(m?)ever seems to be playing best for Alabama when they vote [insert gratuitous Damien Harris reference here].

I still think the vote should come after the bowl games.  Cmac and Vince Young both were robbed in what would have been obvious H victories.  That Rose Bowl win over Iowa was the best Stanford performance I have ever seen!  Dominating Intellectual Brutality along with Farmers Only dot com!

Regardless of whether or not Love needs 200 yards against OSU to be in consideration for the H.eisman, I will be surprised if he gets them, because a) he may not play (I see where it is "day to day" with him), and b) even if he does, I think Shaw will pull him before he gets to those kind of numbers to save him for the Washington schools.

First, Shaw will not be involved in the initial step.  Either the Dr clears him or he doesn’t. Coach has no input in that. Which is the way it must be.

Second even if cleared, Shaw may sit him. The questions to me are  (1) if he plays is he significantly more susceptible to aggravating the injury (by that I mean does he have an increased risk of worsening the injury) and (2) does that risk drop appreciably if he sits another 8 days. 

If those are answered yes and yes, I’d certainly think about sitting him.  If otoh this is something that will be a bit painful at times but not a further risk, I leave it to Love.
