The next official standings won't be released until the weekend. But football points are awarded per USA Today's final Coaches poll -- and Stanford has just been ranked 12th. Last year that meant 64.5 points; if history repeats, the Cardinal now have 506.5 points. Neither UCLA (348), North Carolina (320) nor BYU (267.5) earned any football points.

Higher in the rankings would have been nice, but I can't really argue given the bad losses Stanford suffered. And Stanford outranked LSU! Take that, $EC 8)

Good luck to the rest of the field. Another 100 is virtually assured in women's swimming.Â

Trump the women's swimming team looks great but we need all the elements. The relays are high point events and we are NOT strong in the breast stroke.

FarmDad, I offer a few corrections to your post.
The Cardinal have 440 points through the December 22 scoring release. Adding the 64.5 for 12th place in football raises the unofficial total to 504.5. This is a strong result, especially given that we were concerned about matching last year's Fall total of 480 after early tournament exits by WFH and WSOC. And scoring was very balanced, with three Men's teams earning 254.5 points and four Women's teams earning 250 points.
For quick reference, the football points structure follows below:
FBS Football
The following breakdown will be used:
1st place - 1-25 using the final USA Today poll (comes out after the National Championship game), point breakdown is as follows: We will be using the 64-team non-bracket point system for the top-25 teams with 25th place receiving 49 points.
26th place - Bowl game winners not ranked in poll (45 points)
Next Available Place - Bowl game losers not ranked in the poll (25 points)
UCLA stayed home and earned no Football points. BYU won their bowl game with Wyoming and earned 45 points. UNC earned 25 points in their Sun Bowl loss.
Geaux Cardinal!

I don't doubt we'll lose points to other top teams in the breaststroke events, but the two medley relays won't make or break us (assuming we don't false start!). I believe there will be three free relays and those should more than balance out the medley relays. Current best time rankings:Â
200 MR: 6 (we won that meet's event by 2.6 seconds),
400 MR: 2 (we won that meet's event by 4+ seconds),
200 FR: 4 (we won by 2.3 seconds),
400 FR: 6 (we won by 6 seconds),
800 FR: 1 (we won by 10 seconds).Â
The reason I point out that we won by big margins is to indicate that the swims (and starts) were likely not as fast as we could go.
When I look at Poppe's recent times vs a couple of years ago, it seems she will likely be in the 59.0 range for the 100 Br, with a reasonable chance to be in the 58s. She had a low 59 a couple of years ago but something happened that kept her from swimming well for more than a year (a second slower at 2015 PAC-12, and another second slower at 2016 PAC-12). In November, she went a 1:00.20 on the medley relay at Ohio State (1:00.82 in the individual prelims).
The schools with swimmers currently under a minute are Indiana (Lily King is a second ahead of every one),
under 59.0: FSU, UVa, Louisville,
under 1:00: Texas A&M, Minn, Iowa, Missouri, NC State, So Cal, Ariz, OSU, Texas A&M, Pitt
Overall, Cal & Georgia are ranked #2 behind Stanford. Their fastest breaststrokers are at 1:00.55 and 1:00.67 currently. So, unless something changes, the breaststroke events may not decide the meet.
In the 400MR, current bests are
Cal    3:28.33! (50.85!, 1:00.40, 50.25, 46.83) B team swimmers weren't faster
Stanford 3:29.63Â (Howe 51.45, Williams 1:00.69, Hu 50.22, Manuel 47.27), (Poppe was on the B team with a 1:00.20)
Texas  3:29.77 (51.08, 59.58, 51.95, 47.54)Â
Virginia 3:29.92 (52.86, 58.07!, 50.87, 48.12)
Arizona 3:30.26
Georgia 3:30.34 (51.50, 1:00.07, 51.68, 46.09!)
I wondered about that relatively slow 47.27 by Simone until I realized we won the event by a very big margin, so she had no reason to push it.

I don't track points for other schools, but Stanford teams year-to-date are collectively 8.5 points behind their score last year. The largest improvement is Women's Volleyball which improved by 50 points. On the other hand, Men's Indoor Track and Field earned 46.75 fewer Cup points than last year.

Stanford will be in a solid zone with various tallies likely to be excluded when Stanford hits the maximum allotment. The tally will likely be untouchable by other programs.
UCLA, UNC, Texas, USC, Florida and other frequent top 5 programs need almost everything to go well to reach the typical Stanford total. It is a bit early to assess where the others are likely to finish, but most of the traditional top 10 schools have already posted at least a few sub-par results.
