Theres no logical way to explain how Gaulden flipping off fans is worthy of being off the team while Mayfields competitive spirit has gotten the best of him when grabbing himself and shouting expletives at the other team.
Good for Gaulden for pointing that out.

To his credit Herbstreit owned up to it and said Gaulden was right that there should not be a double standard. To his discredit he became consistent by lowering his standard which was harsh but directionally closer to right IMO.
No doubt preaching to the choir on most of this but: 1) Mayfield should have missed more than a few plays as punishment & this slap on the wrist makes a mockery of discipline; 2) the award should not claim to value integrity while OJ has a vote, Manziel and Winston won and Mayfields antics seem not to have materially affected the voting; 3) they should clarify or amend the criteria but probably wont since that would highlight the recent hypocrisy.
I do think Mayfield is deserving of player of the year based on on-field performance. It would have been harsh to make an example of him given recent winner history.
Hopefully Love comes back to show how big of a year he can have if healthy and wins next year running away (bad pun intended).
Btw, while I dont condone what Reggie Bush did I feel a tiny bit sorry for him being the one exception where the award pretended to have a conscience.
