We are trying to diagnose and solve the problems some people have been having with logging in and others have been having with posting. It's not easy, so please bear with us. If you are having problems and have not emailed moderators@thecardboard.org with details, please do that.

Logging in

I found one issue that would probably have stopped people from logging in if they hadn't logged in since we switched to the new board software. (We switched from SMF to MyBB.) Hopefully that one is fixed. However I don't have a test account that would have have had that problem, so I can't try it.

It seems that issue doesn't explain all the problems. I would like to work directly with some folks who can't log in, to try to understand what the problem is. Email moderators@thecardboard.org if you have an account you can't log in to.

Lost Password link

I just noticed that there are (at least) three ways to log in, and although two of them have a "Lost password?" link that should let you change your password even if your current password isn't working, the other does not. Moreover, the lost password page doesn't seem to work! At least when I try entering my email address, it doesn't acknowledge that I did anything and I don't receive an email. We'll try to get these bugs fixed.

Even if the page did work, it requires you to remember what email address you registered with, and that's easy to forget for those of us with multiple addresses. So again, contact moderators@thecardboard.org if you need help.

Posting

Some people can log in, but they can't post. Often they can post from some devices/browsers but not others, and some have tried clearing their browser cache without success. This one is mysterious so far. I would like to work directly with someone who has that problem too. Unfortunately I probably can't make any progress unless I can be hands-on on your machine trying things, and even then I'm not sure if I can.

If you were having trouble logging in, you should be able to log in now, or at least you should be able to access and use the "lost password" reset feature to get a new password and then log in.

[Edit: Sorry, the "lost password" page was still broken when I first posted this, but it's fixed now for real. When you go to the page https://thecardboard.org/board/member.php?action=lostpw you should now see a box to enter your email address *and* a reCAPTCHA checkbox to prove you are not a robot. If you don't see the checkbox, reload the page.]

If you were having trouble posting from an Apple phone or tablet, you should be able to post now. The board's wysiwyg editor doesn't work on those platforms, so it's automatically disabled there now and you get the source editor instead.

But, on my MacBook running Chrome your avatar is brobdingnagian.  You might want to look at the size of that and adjust.

I believe they just need to re-upload if. I briefly looked into this and I don't think moderators can fix it, just remove it.

What happens when you try to post a pic as an attachment? Can you try it in this thread?

Okay, that doesn't work for me either. I've never tried it before, so I'm not sure what was supposed to happen exactly, but it looks like nothing happened. I am on my Android phone. I'll try on a desktop browser later.

Most people who put images in their posts probably do so by adding the URL of another site where the image resides, rather than uploading it as an attachment. With the wysiwyg editor, there's an icon that looks a bit like a picture frame that you click on to insert an image link.



Anyway, we'll work on debugging it. Thanks for the report.
