My doubts about BBK began with my awareness of the hyoe machine at UW, which focuses on a player each year and runs him relentlessly through the media, It began with Browning. My view was he was a good QB who had put up excellent first year numbers, but had not shown the skills to be an elite first round quarterback.
The next year, it was Rapp, who continues to ride his undeserved and misleading player of the game award for the 2016 Pac 12 championship. I still don't see the fuss. Shouldn't an elite safety defend passes better? Have you ever seen him make a play in a Stanford game.
As to BBK, his game against us last year was bad. UW's defense funnels plays to its ILBs--the DTs occupp three blocker and keep the OLs from moving down to the ILB--so he will always make tackles. But again--and you can find the game on YouTube--just watch the Stanford UW game of last year. (It's fun to see again, we won!) If you think that's player of the year level performance, and not thank-God-if-was-on-the-other-side play--well, you won't.
This doesn't begin to mean he wouldn't help us, even start at ILB. But I think Browning, Rapp, and BBK have all gotten more hype and, from it, more post-season recognition, than their actual performances--good as they may be--merits.
