Through 27 holes, Valenzuela is 1 up. Play has not been as crisp as the quarters or semis. Fewer birdies, more missed greens and missed short putts. Probably a combination of fatigue (mental and physical) and weather. Heat index is over 100.
The standard of play has picked up. Ruffels made a nice birdie putt on 10 (the 28th hole) to square the match. On the par 3 30th Valenzuela stuck a 9 iron two feet from the hole for birdie to regain a 1 up lead with six to play.
Ruffels birdied the 33rd and 35th to turn a 1 down deficit to a 1 up lead going to the 36th hole.
Valenzuela hit a fantastic approach on the 36th, about 5 feet away. But Ruffels made her birdie putt of about 20 feet to lock up the championship. She wins 1 up. Valenzuela was the runner up for the 2nd time.
