Unless the Giants win 3 out of next 5 games against Cubs, A’s and D-Backs, then sweep the Padres, there will not be meaningful games in September. But they are 6 back in loss column as it is, with 35 to play. Even if they went 20-15, they would only be 83-79, which won’t be good enough. They need to go at least 23-12 to finish 86-76. They have yet to even go 3 games over .500 this season.
It’s clear the team has a bit more fight in them these days, but all things considered, I’d have rather lost 4-2 than taken lead at 9-7, only to lose 11-12. It just sucks when you can’t stop the other team from scoring.
