There’s bad reffing and then there’s Tim Donaghy reffing. This game falls in the latter category. I won’t put this loss on the players. The FBI needs to look into this game.

Self-immolation. Spencer Jones was the only one who showed up in the second half, at least based on my naked eye. Clearly, one of the biggest choke jobs in the program's history. Of course, it didn't help that the refs were helping the Toejams, but that's still no excuse for the crap we saw in the second half.

Second half considerably less fun at the Galen center. Can someone who was watching on TV talk about what happened on spencer Jones’ shot at the end of regulation? At the game it sure looked like he was fouled.

I'll add to your question: did we really commit that many fouls? Man, it sure looked like we got hosed by the refs.

The only replay of the shot at the end of regulation wasn’t really a good angle. But live I thought it was a foul.
I hope we can enjoy some of that home cooking too for the return game at Maples.

It was at least as much of a foul as the one on Terry that gave USC three free throws.

McLean actually had a lot of nice things to say about Stanford and Terry, in particular. Of course, those comments were made mainly in the first half.

A lot of things contributed to the loss. Things mentioned earlier for sure.
It also looked like we were gassed by the end of regulation. Players standing around or just going through the motions. Only Da Silva had energy (probably due to foul trouble) which unfortunately got cut short. Shots were being forced (typical of when someone is tired and just wants to end it with a big shot... even if it's low percentage)
Definitely a learning experience game. Alas, not one with a happy ending. But hopefully a few of the more obvious bad decisions near the end will be avoided as the team continues to build for what's looking more and more like a drive for the tournament.
This week started out so well for Stanford BBall, but it's taken a bit of a wrong turn. Hoping things get turned back around tomorrow.

If you told me this morning that we would drop the USC game by an 82-78 score, I would have considered it an acceptable loss.
The way they managed to coug this game brought some sharp lessons into focus and they better learn 'em. Make sure you have a way to inbound the ball. Don't bump into shooters from beyond the arc. And the shots from the free throw line have got to go in well more often than not.
Good thing this team is young. They'll need that upside because they still have demons to vanquish.

Unfortunately there is no chance to avenge this loss. The LA schools don’t travel to the Bay Area this year.
Pac-12 conference championships. Won’t be at home, but at least it will be a neutral venue.

I was at the game. It was a heartbreaking loss. We built our lead on defense, hot shooting and points off turnovers. In the second half, USC hit a lot of outside shots, they cut down on the turnovers, and their defense was much tighter. And their size inside was killing us at both ends of the floor. USC is the best rebounding team in the league. On paper, it will look like the team that was favored won a close one. It just hurts because we should have scored an upset. But I'm confident that this young team will learn from this. Although we do need more size and strength inside.

A team without a legacy of winning on the road went into turtle mode.
They Coug'd it can be replaced with some little play on Haase's name. A split in LA is OK for basketball, but uhhh. That hurts.
Thankfully in hoops a loss is not the end of the season. They have to learn to play turtle mode better OR understand that as the undersized team with a limited bench that they have to go all for the full forty minutes.
USC dumped the ball into the paint on those controlled breaks. That seems like something a lot of teams could try, so I sure hope the staff addresses that soon. Would have been nice to have an adjustment during the game, but definitely hope they can create a plan for the NEXT time.
Next is Cal. So hope they can put this behind them and Beat Cal.

I would love to see someone make a formal complaint to the FBI, if not about this game then some other travesty by P12 officials. I have long thought some P12 officials' poor reputation was solely incompetence but that they were'dirty' (an did get caught once re: ASU). I just don't trust the conference in the major sports.

Yeah, this was a snatch defeat from the jaws of victory reminiscent of the football days of yore.
Actually the reaction has been rather mild, talking about "acceptable" losses and such.
Of course, if the football team had lost like this was there would be screaming and yelling about how much Shaw sucks and how radical changes have got to be made or the whole program will be spiralling down the drain.
All comes down to expectations and where the teams have been I guess.
