By the way, he tangentially touches on the fact that this virus will be around for a while, if not forever. It's likely to turn into a seasonal virus. We need a large percentage of the population to be immune in order for it to not be an every year plague. As was pointed out by Boston Card, the other common Coronaviruses do not impart long-lasting immunity to humans. We'll see what type of vaccines are developed and what type of immunity they provide.

This virus already has a history of mutating, which makes developing a vaccine challenging. We have flu vaccines but it's not like they are full-proof, as they have been for measles, polio, etc.

All viruses mutate; RNA viruses (of which SARS-CoV2 is one example) mutate faster than DNA viruses.  It seems like the mutation rate of SARS-CoV2 is lower than influenza.  The fact that it mutates doesn't necessarily point to loss of immunity.  Loss of immunity to other coronaviruses happens because antibody titers against the virus drop to levels where they no longer provide protection, not because the antigen to which you have antibodies has since mutated.

I will say what I've said before. This is a new virus and we don't have all the data. We should not draw overly definitive conclusions based on what we know about similar viruses and the limited information we have to date.  It's ok to speculate, but don't jump to conclusions.

No way for him or her to know that yet. Is he or she an immunologist or an infectious disease physician who does research at Stanford? Stanford "connected" doesn't mean much. My Stanford connected doctor seems to know less than I do. We don't know if an effective and safe immunization will be easy to produce, difficult to produce, or impossible to produce. We don't know how long it will be effective if it is developed. This virus has been mutating slowly, but what really matters is how much change occurs in the portion(s) of the virus you decide to target with your vaccine. Vaccine development is fraught with pitfalls.
