WBB: Stanford 83 Oregon State 58
The Beavers constantly use their off arm to push away defenders as they dribble drive. This is usually called a foul, but for some reason the refs are letting them get away with it. But if Brink breathes in the wrong direction she is called for a foul.
I think Tara will figure out how to tweek our D in the second half so we can slow down their offense. I'd like us to get the ball down low to Brink and let her get some points in the paint. If nothing else, it will draw fouls against their big.
Finally got a scoreboard on the screen right at the end of the half.

Taylor Jones makes a major difference when she is in the game. Stanford cannot attack the basket the way they want to with T. Jones in the lane. Points in the paint are tough to get today. And with only Brink and Jerome available to guard the post, T. Jones can almost do whatever she wants when she gets the ball down low. OSU has some good players. How are they only 4-5 in the P12?

At the half, Stanford is 8 of 17 inside the arc (not bad) but 9 of 16 outside the arc.
OSU is 10 of 18 inside, 6 of 14 outside.
We are leading on the boards 5+14 vs 2+12

I sure hope we can play the second half with the same intensity as the first.

I noticed one play where it seemed like OSU should get a 5-second closely guarded violation. A player was just standing there waving the ball around, with a defender close by. That's so rarely called that I'm not even sure what the rule is, though.
Edit to add: Wikipedia (I know, not a definitive reference) says "NCAA women's rules require the defender to be within three (3) feet", and so her defender might have let the OSU player off the hook by not staying that close.

Looking at their losses, it looks defensive rebounding is not a strength. In their losses, they've given up double digit offensive rebounds, including at least 17 in 3 of those 5 games

Yeah, it's when "closely-guarded" but she was being closely-guarded.

We need Brink the entire 2nd half. We also need Williams to shoot more.
Defense is hard as Jerome is not a post. Not her fault but we all know that after almost 4 years
Yes refs can’t count to 3 or 5 or in one case with Jones to 8

Hopefully Tara can get our perimeter defense sorted out. Anna was doing a great job, but when she came out for a rest OSU started hitting its bombs.
I am more worried about Taylor Jones. Can a foul-prone Brink guard her? Can Jerome guard her? I think we are missing Belibi and Prechtel on defense, a lot, and Rueck has now seen this and may start featuring Taylor Jones even more in the second half.
I wonder if OUR Jones can guard THEIR Jones?
When was the last time we saw Stanford with only 8 points in the paint for a half?

Finally they called OSU for pushing off with the off hand.
Put a glide in your stride and a dip in your hip.
Any idea why Belibi was held out the first half? Was it disciplinary?

Another mystery foul on Brink. WTF?
Put a glide in your stride and a dip in your hip.
A relief to see Fran. Brink with her third foul--which I thought should have been on Lacie instead.
But we are not slowing the OSU offense down sufficiently. We are still shooting well but heaven help us if we cool off.
Jerome is having the best game for her, offensively, that I can remember. Hit another trey. And she just altered a Taylor Jones shot and got the defensive rebound after. We need her to play like this until the end of the game.
