It's a start. General introduction with no specifics. I guess it's best to at least signal the three conferences agree to have some agreement between the three. I expect TV deals will take a long time to hash out.

"There was an agreement among three gentlemen and a commitment from 41 presidents and chancellors," Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff said. "There is no signed document, and there doesn't need to be. ... We didn't focus on that, we didn't even talk about that."

I don't want to be in the Triple Alliance. That makes us the bad guys and the SEC the good guys, when it should be the opposite. Even worse, it makes Notre Dame the associated power, United States who helps come in to save the day against us. Unacceptable. I demand a re-write to history!!!!

There are hints that the conferences will pursue something meaningful beyond fatter TV deals, so as a fan I’ll take it and hope for the best.

Quote:At present, nine states and the District of Columbia still recognize common law marriages.
In the Pac-12 that includes Colorado and Utah, In the Big-10 Iowa, and in the ACC South Carolina

Not sure about common law marriage. In my time, we would have said that the conferences are "going steady" as a threesome.
If there's one thing people have learned in Berkeley, it's that you can't put "Cal football" and "Rose Bowl" in the same sentence. The words just don't fit. You'd be better off linking "covered wagons" with "Mars travel." (Bruce Jenkins, Cal '70, SF Chronicle, Nov. 11, 2017)

IMO this is a big positive for the P-12. It is a good think that three conference are getting together to fight the SEC. It is a great thing that this essentially puts the nail in the coffin of the B-12. Being one of four major conference is a lot better than being one of five....

Heavy on the platitudes with no substance. I have no idea whether this will be good for the conference or Stanford.

Isn't the very fact that the B-12 was excluded a good thing?
Sure but now we're at risk for anemia.

The context I see -- the great granddaddy of all alliances is the Pac-12 and Big 10, culminating in the Rose Bowl. In recent years, the two conferences have been deepening their historic ties -- planning additional bowl games and non-conference games between the two. In response, the SEC and Big 12 deepened their ties.
This left the ACC as the odd man out, so, I'm surprised they didn't make overtures sooner.
The new Pac-12, Big-10, ACC Alliance is the natural next step, and it's strategically brilliant. If you look at the size of the population, or really, the GDP of Pac-12/Big 10/ACC regions vs the GDP of the SEC/Big 12 regions, the Alliance is a recognition that they had an advantage, so they're playing it.
While true there were no specific proposals yet -- this is just a beginning. What matters is that they recognize they have a mutual interest and can benefit each conference by working together. That's step 1. AND it's all in time before the next round of football media negotiations.
I also love that line about how the Alliance has 34 of the (US News & World Report) Top 100 Universities in the United States. They should keep plugging that line. I wonder what the count is for the SEC/Big 12 partnership.
