What a comeback! Stanford wins the first set 26-24, after being down 23-18.

Question, if there is an injury stoppage, no point is awarded? Stanford was on the attack and likely to win the point but the play was stopped due to a Utah player being down (hope she’s ok). No point was awarded, but that seems unfair.

Fourth set, the serving got better, and it was Utah that was discombobulated while we were by and large in system. Miner is so athletic, Hamby is now bringing in Xu when she’s in the front row. She had four kills two blocks and six digs on top of her 43 assists. There was a Utah overpass where she just hammered it, and she had that kid in a candy store smile.
If the passing gets better and she starts varying her sets a bit more, look out. I’d love to see some quick sets once she works out the timing with her hitters.
As others have noted, I think the passing is too inconsistent for us to be a real threat this year, but this team is going to get real good. Next year, Kipp, Francis, Baird, Oglive, Vicini and Miner should all be back. If we can get some stability in the back, i think we’ll contend for a title.

On a volleyball website the consensus is Tara would never let Maggie Mendelson play basketball and volleyball. A couple posters stated Mendelson was leaning toward volleyball only anyway.

Of course, on one occasion it caught us off guard as well, as both Xu and Miner went to set the ball. But yeah, it’s a good change of pace, plus Xu is a pretty good server.

Of course, on one occasion it caught us off guard as well, as both Xu and Miner went to set the ball. But yeah, it’s a good change of pace, plus Xu is a pretty good server.

It's too soon to know, but if Tara doesn't want to take someone who would only play basketball part time, she can probably get other strong players to fill the class. WBB recruiting has been going well in recent years. There will likely be four slots to fill in 2023, though there could be more if the 2022 class turns out to be less than four.

Yeah, the whistle was blown before the point was scored, but one could imagine how this could get abused; a team could feign an injury on a free ball on a crucial point or something like that.
I guess in the end you have to trust that sportsmanship is still a thing. At the time it was just a bit frustrating that we got a nice set for our outside hitter and the point was called off.

The rule is if the head official sees a major injury during a play, the whistle should be blown, stop play immediately, and call a replay.
I suppose it might be possible in the middle of a rally for a player to fake an injury when the other team looks like it is about to score a critical point. I've never seen that happen at any level of WVB.
Now soccer, faking an injury, that's a different story.

As a Stanford wvb fan I enjoy your fact based comments. When Dunning switched Plummer to OH from OPP her parents thought it was a crazy idea because Plummer had never played OH. It turned out to be one of the best ideas in program history.
Big game today at 1:00 against Colorado. The Buffs are without their best offensive player because she was indefinitely suspended for breaking team rules. I like the Colorado coach. He is a no nonsense, old-school guy.
