Wow, completely unexpected result! Stanford had lost its previous 4 matches so no real indication that it could compete against top teams.
Stanford plays UCLA again tonight at Maples at 6 pm.

At this level, with great athletes, volleyball is largely a game of who makes the fewest mistakes; the fewest hitting errors, the fewest blocking errors, the fewest passing errors.
In the first match, UCLA (13-3) had an astounding 59 total errors, whilst Stanford (9-8) had just 39 errors. Hence, the five-set win. In the second match, UCLA had cut their errors almost in half, to 33, while Stanford had 39 errors -- again.
Two interesting points:
1) Stanford starts five juniors, a redshirt sophomore and a true sophomore. I wouldn't look for a great deal more upside from this team. Hope it happens, but I wouldn't bet on it.
2) Success sure does boost attendance. There were 580 attendees for the first match at Burnham, but 963 for the second match a day later.

Does anyone know where I can watch a replay of the match? I usually watch all the men's matches on Volleyball Watchdog youtube channel but it doesn't seem like they are going to upload the match. The last Stanford match they uploaded was against LBSU.
