I just can't imagine the BigTen possibly being content with USC and UCLA on the west coast and no one else, and I have a hard time believing USC or UCLA would, either. I imagine that all parties talked about the expected poaching of other Pac-12 schools as a necessary next step. So in that way I think it was not just the LA market, but the entire west coast. All speculation on my part.

I think this is probably the case. The only reason to add members would be that they bring in more revenue than you would have to pay out to them. ND would do that. Totally agree. It may be that having only two West coast teams in the Big-10 turns out to be untenable and they have to admit more such teams. That is several years away at best, if it even happens. Dollar-wise, it doesn't make sense for the Big-10.

Since all of this is being driven by Fox and ESPN, the only thing that matters is $$$.  Despite being the epitome of the idea of student-athletes, I would not expect an invite; the veil has been dropped and the only thing that matters is being able to sell ads on TV.
