If we want someone who can work with a school with a high academic reputation, this current guy at Dartmouth has really done great things there.

In his first five seasons after he returned to Dartmouth from Stanford, Teevens went 9-43. Percentage-wise, he actually did worse his first five seasons at Dartmouth than he did at Stanford (10-23). And BTW? Teevens was improving at Stanford. He was 2-9 his first year, and only one of his losses was by a TD or less. Year two, he was 4-7 with, again, one loss by a TD or less.  By year 3, he was again 4-7, but four of his losses were by a TD or less, including 3 point losses to #1 USC and #23 ASU.

The side judge in PAC 12 games switches sides at half.  At a BG when Dykes was at Cal, sometime in the third Q the side judge remarked to me about how it was nice to be on a sideline where he’s not constantly being chewed on.  Dykes had been screaming at him the whole first half.

Defense was an afterthought to Dykes when he was at Cal.  Going to TCU, where Patterson had been a defensive oriented coach, may have helped him some.

Stanford will not be interested in Dykes.  Nor should they be.

Indeed he has had success at Sacramento State. In fact, I do think he is a guy we should look at. What I was pushing against was the idea his time at Utah was a success. It was certainly not. It is also true that while Whittingham went through eight OCs, some of them left for better jobs and AFAIK even the guys he got rid of didn't have the job basically taken away from them after 4 games (as Taylor did).

There are many that have stated it was a clash of ideas. Whittingham wanted a run first conservative offense and Taylor wanted a more wide open attack. Unsurprisingly, Taylor lost that argument. Doesn't mean he isn't a good coach. In fact, going to Sacramento State may just show he wanted his own program, which may be exactly what we need. If anything, I would be concerned that his contact with PAC-12 football was such a bad experience he might decide to stay where he is.

I'm sure Mike Bloomgren will interview well. He's a personable guy. But his career coaching record is 16-38, conference record 12-25, with no winning seasons in his five years as Rice's head coach. To me, that's disqualifying.

Similarly, Derek Mason seems like a good guy. But his record at Vandy was 27-55, conference record 10-46, with no winning seasons in seven years. Again, I think that's disqualifying.

Agree with you Terry. I don't think Troy Walters is a credible candidate either. Among others on that list, Hamilton would be bad and Mendenhall would be uninspiring. If the selection comes from the rest of the list I'll be pleased.

In my perfect world we back up the Brinks truck for Aranda. But I think it's much more likely we get Taylor and that would be exciting too.

Always surprising to me that Stanford fans remember Denny Green as a winner at Stanford. 16-18 at Stanford. His first two years combined for the same number of wins as the last two years of Elway, and then he had one good year from which he immediately bolted AND left his successor (Walsh II) with, yes, a good roster for the immediate first year but a horrid pipeline/recruiting situation otherwise. Denny Green was not a particularly good coach at Stanford. But the vibes/swagger and 1991-1992 seasons were so good Green always gets remembered fondly. I am as big of a Willingham hater as anybody, but he was a better coach for Stanford than Green was.
