Did we have more talent on the team in the mid- to late- nineties when Mike Montgomery was routinely taking us to the tournament? I don't remember a mega-whale recruit being on the roster that started Brevin Knight (who had one other scholarship offer), Art Lee, Kris Wheems, Peter Sauer, and Tim Young. Even later, when we had the Collins twins, Montgomery got more out of 3* players like Lee and Weems than Haase's teams ever have.

I am young and have never watched a Stanford game pre-Dawkins.
Some of Dawkins' teams clearly had more talent than this current iteration.
Those teams were in the days before recruiting rankings, but retrospectively:
Brevin Knight was a low three star (he had only one other D1 offer)
Art Lee was a mid to high three star
Kris Weems was an average three star
Peter Sauer was a mid to high three star
Tim Young is the only like four start player in the bunch
Knight and Young went on to play in the NBA, with Knight having moderate success. I don't think that, top to bottom, Montgomery's teams in the 90's had more talent that Hasse's, at least until the Collins twins arrived.
