Preview:

We complete our trip north with a game at Washington.  WSU wilted under our defensive pressure, but our offense did not always operate smoothly.  Washington, on the other hand, is an excellent defensive team, so it will be a challenge to get our offense on track.

While good on defense, Washington is not so good on offense.  They are 11-9 overall, but just 3-7 in conference.  They are coming off a win against Cal.  Massey has them at 72, their NET is 82.  Their best wins were probably at Oregon State or at home against WSU.  They hold opponents to 58 ppg, but they are a poor three point shooting team and they average 17 turnovers per game--more than their opponents.

Washington is led by Dalayah Daniels, a 6'4" sophomore forward who transferred from Cal.  Imagine how much better Cal would be this year if she had stayed put.  Daniels is scoring 12ppg, leading in rebounds and blocks, and hasn't made a trey this year.  She shoots 52% from inside.

Haley Van Dyke, a 6'3" senior forward from Walnut Creek, is their second leading scorer at 9ppg.  She has shot some treys--at 20%.

Lauren Schwartz, a 5'11" junior forward who transferred from Rice, is their third scorer at 9ppg.  She shoots treys at 30%

Hanna Stines, a 5'11" freshman guard, contributes 8ppg but shoots only 26% from three.

Jayda Noble, a 5'11" sophomore guard, is the fifth starter.  She leads the team in assists, but has even more turnovers.

Off the bench, they have 5'11" guard Trinity Oliver, a transfer from Baylor, and who gets more minutes than some starters.

Looking at the Washington team it is hard to see how they can outscore us, although they have kept most games close with their defense.  The greatest danger for us would be that our stagnant offense vanishes completely, as it did against USC, and we lose in a very low scoring game.  Washington will no doubt try to deploy the USC defense against us.  I hope we have learned how to handle it.

In the second Quarter UW shot 75%, 100%, 100% (12-14, 4-4, 2-2) for 30 points.  This after they only scored 8 in the first Q.  It's been a long time since we've given up 30 points in a quarter.

Don't expect UW to keep shooting at that level. Tara will figure out how to shut them down.

We trail 34-38 at the half.
