Makes me think of which was the latest first-time championship for Stanford? Men's soccer?
Correct, Stanford has not won a team national championship in wrestling. Using https://gostanford.com/sports/2017/5/22/...-champions as a reference, the most recent first time national champion is men's soccer in 2015-2016. I think softball is the favorite for next first time champion, then beach volleyball, then wrestling and women's gymnastics.
In the history of NCAA men's wrestling, a school from outside of the B10 and B8/12 has won once - ASU in 1998. This year ASU was 7th. Cornell (Coach Koll's prior employer) finished 3rd, but they were 60 points behind the winner, Penn State. Stanford was 26th. If Stanford could just make the top 10, it would be an amazing accomplishment.
