Enos Slaughter played mostly as a Cardinal. So far as I can remember, Slaughter's Cardinals played in the World Series only once after WWII, which was in 1946. So I'm guessing that a Cardinals pitcher must have won 3 games in the 1946 World Series, but I don't remember who it was.

Barry was reviled.
If that team was in NY they would have written songs about them. As it was, they didn’t merit the cover of SI after sweeping the Bullets. Who were heavily favored. Still pisses me off.
Barry was a jerk. No question. Frankly, the players should have loved him. His jumping to the ABA opened the door for the merger. And the players made a lot more money as a result.
Difficult in the extreme. He’s paid the price legacy wise.

Cliff Ray was eight years younger than Thurmond -- Thurmond had only really great year left in him, and the Warriors --and their perpetually undefunded owner Franklin Mieuli -- also received $100k in cash. Ray also turned into a very strong big man's coach who worked for the Warriors for years.
I had a friend from Boston, and just to torque him, I'd mention how I'd rather have Rick Barry than Larry Bird any day of the week (I wouldn't, but...). That would just send him into orbit.

In 1974-5 season, Cliff Ray had a players-only meeting with all the players except Barry, and (paraphrased) said yeah, he's a jerk, but he's our jerk and he'll take this team really far, so just live with it.
The next year, the Warriors were actually a better team, 59-23 in the regular season, leading the NBA in defensive rating and second in offensive rating. But Barry got into a first half fight wtih Ricky Sobers in the 1976 playoff Game Seven against the 42-40 Suns. His teammates didn't come to his aid -- and there were earlier snubs by his teammates -- so Barry refused to shoot in the second half and tanked the playoffs.
That would have been a Celtics vs. Warriors 1976 NBA Finals. Too bad.

My aunt was the executive secretary for GS while Barry was there.
She told me one day that Barry had finished first in all the speed tests given during preseason. I was just a kid but I remember being surprised to hear this. I never thought of Barry as a speed guy.
Years later I heard Elgin Baylor speaking about Barry. He said that he, “Revolutionized” the Forward position because the league had never seen a Forward with his kind of speed before.
