The first of many (I'm sure) proposals for a "super league" of collegiate football.  Would be nice to be back in a Pac-6 of sorts with Cal as well as the LA and Arizona schools (what should have been the Pac-12 South).

To be clear, the CSFL plan is audacious, intriguing—and, at this point, far-fetched. Given the legal issues and the broadcast deals involved, the prospect of it happening anytime soon are closer to a Hail Mary than a quick completion. To be viable, the CSFL would need to convince dozens of teams across 10 conferences to join and unify their television rights.

Yeah, but would Notre Dame insist on still being independent somehow.

These guys proposed a prototype version of this back in early April or so.  Seven power conferences, 10 teams each.  We would be in the original Pac-10, called the "West."  Other power conferences would be the Southwest, Plains, Midwest, Northeast, Southeast, and South.  Basically everybody already in a Power 4 plus ND, Oregon State and WSU.  Everybody else goes into something called the "Under League."

Larry at work and I white-boarded something similar during the conference realignment frenzy. However, we went by an 8 (conference) x 10 team model and included a mandatory 9 round robin conference schedule to select each of 8 playoff participants with 3 non-conference games to help with overall seeding by conference power ranking. And for kickass intersectional matchups that don't kill playoff hopes. Now, everything is intersectional all the time. No conference championship games, which are unnecessary with round robin. We also added relegation to make sure that anyone who wants in on playoff football can earn their way into the playoff by winning games and ultimately their conference. Each of the 8 conferences would have a line below the tenth team. Fall below that line and become relegated. Maybe we were watching too much Ted Lasso at the time.

There is a remarkable similarity to some of our conference names. I'm starting to wonder if Larry's office is bugged.

Without seeing which teams in your conferences, still I would suspect by its nature it preserves a lot more of the historical rivalries as in-conference games, that the 12 conference organization misses and would have to arrange as out of conference. Also it seems hard to know how else to fairly handle the initial outcasts other than a promotion/relegation method, regardless of whether one has experienced Ted Lasso enculturation or not.

Without getting into who is relegated when (cough....Stanford....so don't read much into the order of teams), something like this; The number of FBS schools is not evenly divisible by 8, so it looks like we're going to be a couple of flowers short and you boys will have to..... Ten above the line and playoff eligible through round robin selection and six below trying to replace the teams 9 and 10, or something like that. Pure geographical balance is impossible, so accommodations are made....like getting the Big 8 back together more or less. Alabama and Tennessee have to be in the same conference, etc. Some will like; some will hate. It takes a czar to make it happen. Like a professional league commissioner. The Football Commissar. (Don't turn around, look, look,)
